37. Serum leveis of inflammatory markers in type 2 diabetes patients with chronic periodontitis
Diabetes has been associated with periodontitis, but the mechanisms through which periodontal diseases affect the metabolic control remain unclear. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate serum leveis of inflammatory markers, IL-8, IL-6 and monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP-1), in type 2 diabetic patients in the presence of chronic periodontitis.

38. Evaluation of the use of systemic antimicrobial agents by professionals for the treatment of periodontal diseases
AIM: To investigate the indication of systemic antimicrobial agents used by dental professionals for treatment of patients affected by periodontal diseases. METHODS: Interviews by a questionnaire were held with 225 professionals of different dental specialties and who performed periodontal treatment. RESULTS: Among interviewees, 94% indicated systemic antibi

39. Clinical and mycological analysis of dog's oral cavity
The oral microbiota of humans and animals is made up of a wide variety of yeasts and bacteria, but microbiota of dogs is not totally described. Although such identification is an important step to establish the etiopathogenesis and adequate therapy for the periodontal disease The aim of this study was to evaluate and correlate oral alterations with the prese

40. Periodontal disease and diabetes mellitus
Periodontal disease (PD) is one of the most commonly known human chronic disorders. The relationship between PD and several systemic diseases such as diabetes mellitus (DM) has been increasingly recognized over the past decades. Objective The purpose of this review is to provide the reader with knowledge concerning the relationship between PD and DM. Many a

41. Cinética de expressão de moléculas co-estimulatórias de osteoclastos no desenvolvimento da doença periodontal experimental e sua modulação por citocinas / Kinetics of osteoclast co-stimulatory molecules throughout experimental periodontitis and mice and its modulation by cytokines
The osteoclast differentiation and activation are essential to bone tissue homeostasis and in the development of bone pathologies, which RANK/RANKL signaling molecules are the major osteoclastogenic factor. However, osteoclast co-stimulatory molecules, such as DAP-12, TREM-2, SIRP1, FcR, OSCAR and PIR-A, also present an important role in the osteoclastogenes

42. Anti-inflammatory and anti resorptive bone effects of minocycline in periodontal disease induced in normal and diabetic rats. / Efeitos anti-inflamatÃrios e antirreabsortivo Ãsseo da minociclina na doenÃa periodontal induzida em ratos diabÃticos e normais.
The immune/inflammatory response has a key role in the periodontal disease (DP) whose progression results from an imbalance between periodontopathogenic microorganisms and the host response. This leads to the production and release of inflammatory mediators and tissue damage. DP is considered the sixth complication in diabetes. Furthermore, diabetes mellitus

43. Associação entre periodontite e diabetes mellitus gestacional: estudo caso-controle
Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is a glucose intolerance with onset during pregnancy. Despite presenting well-established risk factors such as obesity, previous GDM, high maternal age and family history of diabetes, has been suggested the possibility of association of inflammatory and infectious processes in the pathogenesis of GDM. Thus, periodontitis m

45. Antimicrobial peptides and nitric oxide production by neutrophils from periodontitis subjects
Neutrophils play an important role in periodontitis by producing nitric oxide (NO) and antimicrobial peptides, molecules with microbicidal activity via oxygen-dependent and -independent mechanisms, respectively. It is unknown whether variation in the production of antimicrobial peptides such as LL-37, human neutrophil peptides (HNP) 1-3, and NO by neutrophil

47. Mechanisms of action of systemic antibiotics used in periodontal treatment and mechanisms of bacterial resistance to these drugs
Antibiotics are important adjuncts in the treatment of infectious diseases, including periodontitis. The most severe criticisms to the indiscriminate use of these drugs are their side effects and, especially, the development of bacterial resistance. The knowledge of the biological mechanisms involved with the antibiotic usage would help the medical and denta

48. Modulation of host cell signaling pathways as a therapeutic approach in periodontal disease
Recently, new treatment approaches have been developed to target the host component of periodontal disease. This review aims at providing updated information on host-modulating therapies, focusing on treatment strategies for inhibiting signal transduction pathways involved in inflammation. Pharmacological inhibitors of MAPK, NFκB and JAK/STAT pathways are b
