1. Ultrafine quartz flocculation: Part I. System characterization and variables selection
Abstract A characterization study was performed to verify the more relevant physicochemical properties for quartz flocculation with polyacrylamide, as well as to define which variables should be further investigated regarding this flocculation system. Polyacrylamide was evaluated through molecular weight, radius of gyration, and infrared spectrometry. A natu

2. Self-Assembled Nanoparticles of Diruthenium(II,III)-Ibuprofen Anticancer Metallodrug
The diruthenium(II,III)-ibuprofen (RuIbp) metallodrug shows anticancer activity in vitro and in vivo. The encapsulation into lipid nanoparticles enhanced the efficacy in glioblastoma, breast and prostate cancer cells. Here we report data for RuIbp hydrophobicity, solubility in alcohol/water, and behavior in 1-5% ethanol/water and ethanol/cell culture medium.

3. Effects of addition of engineered ZnO nanoparticles on the stability of colloidal suspensions containing TiO2 interacting with sandy soil
Abstract The stability of colloidal suspensions of engineered nanoparticles in the environment is of great interest for the risk assessment and treatment of hazardous materials. The relevance of this study is due to the evidence that engineered nanoparticles have been produced and used in commercial products in large scale, especially ZnO and TiO2, which are

4. REMOVAL OF NITRATE FROM DRINKING WATER BY USING PdCu STRUCTURED CATALYSTS BASED ON CORDIERITE MONOLITHS
Abstract Structured catalysts were prepared, characterized and evaluated in NO3 - removal from drinking water. Different suspensions containing a previously optimized PdCu/5wt% ZrO2-Al2O3 powder catalyst (hereinafter PdCu/5ZAp) were prepared and deposited on cordierite monoliths by washcoating. The effect of suspension concentration, the particle size, the i

5. RHEOLOGICAL BEHAVIOR OF A SILVER AQUEOUS NANOFLUID STABILIZED WITH AMINOSILANE-BASED SURFACTANT UNDER CONFINED FLOW
ABSTRACT The rheological behavior of an aqueous suspension of silver nanoparticles stabilized with aminosilane-based surfactant flowing under confinement was investigated. Three stability levels were defined based on the zeta potential: high (41.73 mV, pH 4.3), medium (10.44 mV, pH 7.4), and low (0.74 mV, pH 8.6). Furthermore, the preliminary investigation s

6. Applying Different Sample Treatment Strategies for Evaluating Phosphorus Distribution in Orange Juice
Assessment of phosphorus in fruit juices is of great interest due to its essentiality and nutritional properties. This study applied sample treatment strategies to determine phosphorus in fractions of juices. Firstly, total phosphorus (Ptotal) was determined from digestion and sample suspension exploring direct analysis by inductively coupled plasma optical

7. Adsorption of BSA (Bovine Serum Albuminum) and lysozyme on poly(vinyl acetate) particles
Abstract Poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) particles find many uses in the biomedical field, including the use as particle embolizers. Particularly, embolizing particles can combine physical and chemical effects when they are doped with pharmaceuticals. For this reason, the adsorption of bovine serum albuminum (BSA) and lysozyme (used as model biomolecules) on PVAc

8. INFLUENCE OF THE MODEL SCALE ON HYDRODYNAMIC SCALING IN CFB BOILERS
Abstract The paper presents the results of experimental verification of the simplified set of scaling parameters for which the particle density as well as the cold model length scale may be chosen independently. The tests were carried out on two large scale 1/10 and 1/20 geometrically similar cold models of the Lagisza 966 MWth supercritical CFB boiler. The

9. MODELING PARTICLE SIZE DISTRIBUTION IN HETEROGENEOUS POLYMERIZATION SYSTEMS USING MULTIMODAL LOGNORMAL FUNCTION
Abstract This work evaluates the usage of the multimodal lognormal function to describe Particle Size Distributions (PSD) of emulsion and suspension polymerization processes, including continuous reactions with particle re-nucleation leading to complex multimodal PSDs. A global optimization algorithm, namely Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), was used for pa

10. Ultrastructure of Zika virus particles in cell cultures
Zika virus (ZIKV) has infected thousands of Brazilian people and spread to other American countries since 2015. The introduction of ZIKV brought a strong impact to public health in Brazil. It is of utmost importance to identify a susceptible cell line that will enable the isolation and identification of the virus from patient samples, viral mass production,

11. Development of an oral suspension containing dry extract of Aleurites moluccanus with anti-inflammatory activity
Abstract Aleurites moluccanus L. (Willd.), Euphorbiaceae, is a tree that is native to Indonesia and India. Various parts of this tree are commonly used in traditional medicine to treat pain, fever, inflammation, hepatitis, gastric ulcer and other ailments. An oral suspension containing dried extract of A. moluccanus was developed and in vivo anti-inflammator

12. Otimização reológica de suspensões aquosas de óxido de ferro (III)
In this work the dispersion of iron oxide III particles in aqueous media was studied. To achieve the maximum solid content zeta potential measurements were carried as a function of pH. The influences of two different types of polyacrylates as dispersants were investigated. Suspensions were produced by varying solids concentration up to 30 vol.%. The results
