13. Effects of water table management and nitrogen supplies in crops under hypoxia conditions in soil / Influência do manejo do nível freático e doses de nitrogênio em culturas sob hipoxia no solo
In many countries, extensive agricultural areas are affected by short-term waterlogging that cause significant damages to the crop yields. The objectives of this work were: a) to evaluate the stress effect of the soil water excess on lentil plants (Lens culinaris Medik) related to water table management; b) to evaluate the behavior of soybean cultivars (Glyc

14. Partial anomalous pulmonary venous drainage in two patients with Turner's syndrome.
We report two cases of partial anomalous pulmonary venous drainage in a series of 135 patients with Turner's syndrome.

15. Partial Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Return: A Ten-Year Experience
In this report, 24 patients with partial anomalous pulmonary venous return were reviewed. Six of the eight patients with left-sided drainage were repaired without extracorporeal circulation by anastomosing the left-sided vein to the left atrium. Symptoms resolved in five of the six. Two of the eight were surgically repaired by using extracorporeal circulatio

17. Partial anomalous pulmonary venous return with intact atrial septum: report of four cases.
Four patients are reported who underwent repair of partial anomalous pulmonary venous drainage with intact atrial septum. One patient also had azygos continuation of the inferior vena cava and two patients had associated mitral stenosis. Diagnostic considerations and guidelines for operative repair are presented.

18. Stented versus nonstented pancreaticojejunostomy after pancreatoduodenectomy: a prospective study.
OBJECTIVE: To compare morbidity and mortality rates of stented versus nonstented pancreaticojejunostomy after partial pancreatoduodenectomy. BACKGROUND DATA: Despite a marked reduction in the mortality rate after partial pancreatoduodenectomy in recent years, leakage of the pancreaticojejunostomy still occurs in 5% to 25% of patients and remains the major so

19. Mycotic aortic aneurysm complicating isolated partial anomalous pulmonary venous drainage
An aneurysm that develops within a normal segment of the ascending aorta in a child with asymptomatic and previously undiagnosed congenital heart disease at the atrial level is most unusual and highly lethal. This report describes a child who had successful corrective surgery for this anomaly.

20. Selective drainage for pancreatic, biliary, and duodenal obstruction secondary to chronic fibrosing pancreatitis.
Twenty-eight patients underwent surgery for intractable pain, duodenal or extrahepatic biliary obstruction secondary to chronic pancreatitis. Eleven had pancreatic duct obstruction alone, six biliary obstruction alone, seven combined pancreatic and biliary, two combined biliary and duodenal, one combined pancreatic and duodenal, and one simultaneous pancreat

21. Pancreatic exocrine and endocrine function after operations for chronic pancreatitis.
Exocrine and endocrine function of the pancreas was assessed in the early postoperative period (< or = 2 months) and subsequently (mean, 25 months; range, 3 to 120) in 103 patients (69 men, 34 women; mean age, 42.4 +/- 11.6 years) undergoing operation for chronic pancreatitis. Alcohol was the main causative agent (69%) and pain the most frequent indication (

22. Rheumatic mitral stenosis in association with partial anomalous pulmonary venous return
An unusual case is presented, in which mitral stenosis was accompanied by a persistent left superior vena cava communicating through a venous channel with the left pulmonary veins. The pulmonary veins were normally connected to the left atrium, but, due to elevation of the left atrial pressure from the mitral valve lesion, pulmonary venous blood was directed

23. Pedicled Fasciocutaneous Flap of Multi-island Design for Large Sacral Defects
We designed a new pedicled fasciocutaneous flap for large sacral defects that combined a classic superior gluteal artery perforator flap and an acentric axis perforator pedicled propeller flap. We asked whether this technique would be simple and result in few complications. Six patients with large sacral defects had reconstruction using this technique in one

24. Clinical and Laboratory Features of Mycobacterium mageritense
Six clinical isolates of the nonpigmented, rapidly growing species Mycobacterium mageritense were recovered from sputum, bronchial wash, blood, sinus drainage, and two surgical wound infections from separate patients in Texas, New York, Louisiana, and Florida. The isolates matched the ATCC type strain by PCR restriction enzyme analysis of the 65-kDa hsp gene
