37. Evolution of Microstructure in Al-Si-Cu System Modified with a Transition Element Addition and its Effect on Hardness
The effect of Ni 1-2 wt.% addition on the microstructure and hardness of the aged A319 alloy were studied. Characterization analyses by x-ray diffraction, optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy suggest clearly that Ni addition forms Al-Ni-Cu-Fe, Al-Cu-Ni and Al-Ni intermetallic compounds that correlates well with equilibria conditions. Analyses

38. Dynamically Configurable Nonlinear Optical Switching Based on Vertically Aligned Carbon Nanotubes
Abstract The modification of the third order nonlinear optical response exhibited by vertically aligned carbon nanotubes in two-wave mixing interactions was analyzed. All-optical switching effects were explored by using a vectorial optical Kerr gate with nanosecond pulses at 532 nm wavelength of excitation. The samples were prepared by a spray pyrolysis meth

39. Synthesis and Characterization of Yttrium Stabilized Zirconia Nanoparticles
Yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) nanoparticles were synthesized by the co-precipitation method. The crystallinity, morphological and optical properties of the YSZ nanoparticles were studied by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), FT-Raman, photoluminescence (PL) spectrum analyses. The grai

40. Antimonial drugs entrapped into phosphatidylserine liposomes: physicochemical evaluation and antileishmanial activity
Abstract: INTRODUCTION: Leishmaniasis is a disease caused by the protozoan Leishmania that resides mainly in mononuclear phagocytic system tissues. Pentavalent antimonials are the main treatment option, although these drugs have toxic side effects and high resistance rates. A potentially alternative and more effective therapeutic strategy is to use liposom

41. Structural, Optical, Morphological and Dielectric Properties of Cerium Oxide Nanoparticles
Cerium oxide (CeO2) nanoparticles were prepared by the precipitation method. The average crystallite size of cerium oxide nanoparticles was calculated from the X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern and found to be 11 nm. The FT-IR spectrum clearly indicated the strong presence of cerium oxide nanoparticles. Raman spectrum confirmed the cubic nature of the cerium o

42. Investigation on Structural, Surface Morphological and Dielectric Properties of Zn-doped SnO2 Nanoparticles
Zinc doped Tin oxide (SnO2) nanoparticles were prepared by co-precipitation method. The average crystallite size of pure and Zn-doped SnO2 nanoparticles was calculated from the X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern. The FT-IR spectrum indicated the strong presence of SnO2 nanoparticles. The morphology and the particle size were studied using the scanning electron

43. A Multilayer Approach for Optical Network Planning
With the increase in demand to Backbone networks, one became fundamental the application of new telecommunication technologies for efficient use of devices and optical links, such as xPSK modulations with dual polarization, dispersion compensating fibers, coherent detection and digital processing signals. Thus, network planning using analytical models have b

44. Enhancement of Optical Absorption, Photoluminescence and Raman Transitions in Bi2O3-GeO2 Glasses with Embedded Silver Nanoparticles
The influence of silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) on the optical properties of Bi2O3-GeO2 glasses was investigated aiming the characterization of their potential for applications in photonic devices. The samples were prepared by the melt-quenching technique starting from high purity oxides (GeO2, Bi2O3 and AgNO3). Heat-treatment during different times was perfo

45. Design of Frequency Selective Band Stop Shield Using Analytical Method
Abstract In this article, a high-order frequency selective band-stop EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) shield is designed using multilayer square loop while each loop resonates at the specific desired frequency. The glass material is picked out as the preferred substrate for the designing process. In contrast to the computationally intensive numerical appr

46. NIR Luminescence from Sol-Gel Er3+ Doped SiO2:GeO2 Transparent Gels, Nanostructured Powders and Thin Films for Photonic Applications
Samples of (1 – x)SiO2:xGeO2 compositions, containing x = 10 and 20, and doped with Er3+, were prepared by a simple sol-gel route. Homogeneous and transparent gels were synthesized and xerogels were obtained by gel annealing from 700 ºC to 1100 ºC. Films exhibiting high transmittance in the visible and near infrared were deposited by spin-coating techniq

47. Low Temperature Synthesis of Luminescent RE2O3:Eu3+ Nanomaterials Using Trimellitic Acid Precursors
[RE(TLA)·(H2O)n:Eu3+] (RE3+: Y, Gd and Lu; TLA: trimellitic acid) precursor complexes were synthesized by an one step aqueous co-precipitation method. After annealing for 1 h, RE2O3:Eu3+ nanophosphors were formed through the benzenetricarboxylate low temperature thermolysis method (500-1000 ºC). The compounds were characterized by using different technique
