1. High-Speed Pulse Sequences through Semiconductor Optical Nonlinear Amplification and Buried Fiber Propagation
Abstract Microwave pulse bursts were obtained through optical domain intensity modulated microwave carriers, sliced by cascaded modulator technique, followed by non-linear semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) pre-chirp. After 3 to 18 km of buried fiber propagation and photo detection, the microwave signals presented increased extinction ratio, up to 36 GHz,

2. Calibration of TLM Model for Semiconductor Optical Amplifier by Heuristic Parameters' Extraction
Abstract The systemic behavior of a Semiconductor Optical Amplifier model was optimized through extensive simulations, reaching reasonable approximation to experimental obtained from commercial devices for the optical gain versus bias current, for different optical inputs powers (-25 up to 0 dBm), and for the gain saturation profile for different I-bias (0 u

3. A simple strategy to design broadband low power consumption distributed Raman amplifier
Abstract In this work, a simple strategy to design wideband low power consumption Raman amplifiers is demonstrated for a three-pump configuration using a low water peak optical fiber. The approach is based on the introduction of a novel numerical measure, which quantifies and isolates pump-pump interaction contribution to gain profile and analyzes its correl

4. Hybrid distributed Raman/EDFA amplifier with hybrid automatic gain control for reconfigurable WDM optical networks
Nowadays, optical amplifiers designs are induced by new requirements generated by optical networks. The introduction of WDM reconfigurable networks with increasing rate from 10-40 Gb/s to 100 Gb/s and beyond, demand new optical amplifiers development with improved gain spectral flatness and noise figure for all operational range of input powers and set-point

5. Particle swarm optimization in WDM/OCDM networks with physical impairments
In this paper, optimization procedures based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) are investigated, aiming to efficiently solve the optimal resource allocation for signal-to-noise plus interference ratio (SNIR) optimization of optical code paths (OCPs) from wavelength division multiplexing/optical code division multiplexing (WDM/OCDM) considering imperfectio

6. Comparing OSNR based policies for an adaptive-alternative IA-RWA algorithm applied to all-optical networks
We propose two policies to select the route for an adaptive-alternative routing algorithm for all-optical networks. We use the NrPSR to find the Nr routes with lower cost for a given source-destination pair according to a cost function expanded in a power series (PSR) in which the coefficients are determined by a Particle Swarm Optimizer (PSO). The selected

7. Determining the Fixed Pattern Noise of a CMOS Sensor: Improving the Sensibility of Autonomous Star Trackers
ABSTRACT: Autonomous star trackers are optical-electronic devices used for attitude determination of artificial satellites, having as a reference for this computation the positions of stars. There is one autonomous star tracker in development at the Aerospace Electronics Division of the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research. The autonomous star tra

8. Espectroscopia ultrarrápida do polímero semicondutor luminescente MEH-PPV com excitação no ultravioleta / Ultrafast spectroscopy of the luminescent semiconducting polymer MEH-PPV with ultraviolet excitation
The optoelectronics industry is currently undergoing a transition period in which inorganic materials are being replaced by organic materials, oligomers and polymers, in the fabrication of some types of devices. However, factors such as low efficiency and low lifetime prevent polymer based devices on entering the market definitely. The solution of these issu

9. Sistemas de sensores ópticos baseados em fibra óptica de perfil-W dopada com Érbio / Optical sensing systems based on Erbium-doped W-fiber
Depressed-cladding (often referred to as dual-clad or "W"- fiber) fibers with fundamental-mode cutoffs provide high distributed losses at long wavelengths and low losses at short wavelengths. The magnitude of the abrupt transition between low-loss at short wavelengths and high-loss at long wavelengths exceeds 200 dB/km and is found to be extremely sensitive

10. Design of distributed optical-fiber raman amplifiers using multi-objective particle swarm optimization
A novel method is presented to design the configuration of pumping lasers of Raman amplifiers using a multi-objective particle swarm optimizer. The goal is to obtain the pump laser wavelengths and powers that maximize the amplifier on-off gain, while maintaining the flatness of the gain over the used bandwidth. We used an algorithm called Multiple Objective
