1. Studying Torsional Vibration of a Micro-shaft in a Micro-scale Fluid Media based on Non-classical Theories
Abstract In this paper, torsional vibration of a micro-shaft in interacting with a micro-scale fluid media has been investigated. The presented mathematical model for this study is made up of a micro-shaft with one end fixed and a micro-cylinder at its free end which is immersed in a micro-scale fluid media. The micro-shaft can be actuated torsionally via ap

2. Impact Damage Analysis with Stress Continuity Constraints Fulfilment at Damaged-Undamaged Regions and at Layer Interfaces
Abstract Low-velocity impacts have a relevant importance for safety of laminated and sandwich composite structures, because they are highly susceptible to damage. In this paper, a 3D cost effective zig-zag model is developed in order to efficiently simulate such impacts. It a priori fulfills the continuity of out-of-plane stresses at layer interfaces, the co

3. A New Fifth-Order Shear and Normal Deformation Theory for Static Bending and Elastic Buckling of P-FGM Beams
Abstract A new fifth-order shear and normal deformation theory (FOSNDT) is developed for the static bending and elastic buckling analysis of functionally graded beams. The properties of functionally graded material are assumed to vary through the thickness direction according to power-law distribution (P-FGM). The most important feature of the present theory

4. Investigation of Size-Dependency in Free-Vibration of Micro-Resonators Based on the Strain Gradient Theory
Abstract This paper investigates the vibration behavior of micro-resonators based on the strain gradient theory, a non-classical continuum theory capable of capturing the size effect appearing in micro-scale structures. The micro-resonator is modeled as a clamped-clamped micro-beam with an attached mass subjected to an axial force. The governing equations of

5. Buckling and Vibration of Functionally Graded Non-uniform Circular Plates Resting on Winkler Foundation
Abstract An investigation on the effect of uniform tensile in-plane force on the radially symmetric vibratory characteristics of functionally graded circular plates of linearly varying thickness along radial direction and resting on a Winkler foundation has been carried out on the basis of classical plate theory. The non-homogeneous mechanical properties of

6. Buckling configurations and dynamic response of buckled Euler-Bernoulli beams with non-classical supports
Exact solutions of buckling configurations and vibration response of post-buckled configurations of beams with non-classical boundary conditions (e.g., elastically supported) are presented using the Euler-Bernoulli theory. The geometric nonlinearity arising from mid-plane stretching (i.e., the von Kármán nonlinear strain) is considered in the formulation.

8. The numerical modeling of thermal turbulent wall flows with the classical κ - ε model
The goal of this work is to propose a new methodology to simulate turbulent thermal wall flows using the classical κ - ε model. The focus of this approach is based on the manner used to implement heat flux boundary conditions on the solid walls. In order to explain and to validate this new algorithm, several test cases are presented, testing a great range

9. Guias de onda com um ambiente para testes de uma eletrodinâmica com violação das simetrias de Lorentz e CPT / Waveguides as a way of testing an electrodynamics with broken Lorentz and CPT symmetries
We study a CPT- and Lorentz-odd electrodynamics in (3+1) dimensions, obtained by adding a Chern-Simons-like term to the usual Maxwell model, as described by the radiation sector of the Standard Model Extension. Once this term is proportional to a constant background "4-vector", (kAF), wich selects a preferred direction in the spacetime (breaking its isotropy

10. Métodos de Elementos Finitos e Diferenças Finitas para o Problema de Helmholtz / Finite Elements and Finite Difference Methods for the Helmholtz Equation
It is well known that classical finite elements or finite difference methods for Helmholtz problem present pollution effects that can severely deteriorate the quality of the approximate solution. To control pollution effects is especially difficult on non uniform meshes. For uniform meshes of square elements pollution effects can be minimized with the Quasi

11. Análogos cosmológicos dos efeitos Schwinger estático e oscilatório / Cosmological Analogues of the Static and Oscillatory Schwinger Effect
In this work we study the quantum effects of particle creation in the cosmological context and of the classical electrodynamics. With the studies of the particle creation in constant and oscillatory external electrical fields, the known static and oscillatory Schwinger effects, respectively, it was possible to study the polarization of the quantum vacuum and

12. Simulation of non-periodics flows using the fourier pseudo-spectral and immersed boundary methods / Simulação de escoamentos não-periódicos utilizando as metodologias pseudo-espectral e da fronteira imersa acopladas
Modern engineering increasingly requires the comprehension of phenomena related to combustion, aeroacustics, turbulence transition, among others. For these purposes the Computational Fluids Dynamics (CFD) requires the used high order methods. One of these methods is the Fourier pseudo-spectral method, that provides an excellent numerical accuracy, and with t
