1. How Much do the Environmental Conditions Interfere with the Essential Oils of Eugenia spp. L. (Myrtaceae)?
Eugenia is the largest neotropical genus in the Myrtaceae family. The genus has a wide geographical distribution, occurring from Mexico to Argentina. Eugenia species are rich in essential oils. Essential oils have applications in perfumery, cosmetics, food, pesticides and medicines. Several factors can influence the chemical composition and yield of essentia

2. Macrophyte functional composition is stable across a strong environmental gradient of a Neotropical floodplain
ABSTRACT Ecological communities are compared by the similarity or distinctness of their species. Taking into account community composition at a determined site, one could expect a similar reasoning to explain differences in both taxonomic and functional composition due to environmental gradients. We aim to evaluate spatial variation in functional composition

3. Response of rhizomes of the invasive Hedychium coronarium J. König (Zingiberaceae) to different soil moisture conditions
ABSTRACT The ability to maintain high competitiveness under a wide range of conditions is common among successful invasive species. The performance of rhizomatous macrophytes in different habitats is closely related to morphological and physiological adaptations in the rhizome system. We investigated the effects of soil moisture conditions on the microstruct

4. Comparative vegetative anatomy of Neotropical Goodyerinae Klotzsch (Orchidaceae Juss.: Orchidoideae Lindl.)
ABSTRACT The Neotropical genera Aspidogyne and Microchilus (Goodyerinae, Cranichideae, Orchidaceae) comprise ca. 200 rainforests terrestrial species. Although species of Goodyerinae are described with similar anatomy to other taxa of Cranichideae, some anatomical characteristics appear to be specific to the subtribe. Our goal was to characterise the anatomic

5. Two new species of the industrially relevant genus Absidia (Mucorales) from soil of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest
ABSTRACT During a survey of Mucorales in soil from an upland forest area in Pernambuco, Brazil, two specimens were isolated and characterized based on their morphological, physiological, and molecular data (ITS and LSU rDNA). Phylogenetic analyses of the isolates revealed that the strains URM 8209 and URM 8210 are closely related to species of Absidia. URM 8

6. Taxonomic study of Marsypianthes Mart. ex Benth. (Hyptidinae, Lamiaceae) in Brazil
ABSTRACT Marsypianthes is a Neotropical plant genus distributed from southern Mexico to northeastern Argentina. It is composed of six species - M. arenosa, M. burchellii, M. chamaedrys, M. foliolosa, M. hassleri, M. montana - with all occurring in Brazil except for M. arenosa, which occurs in Mexico. Marsypianthes burchellii, M. foliolosa and M. montana are

7. Fruits of neotropical species of the tribe Malveae (Malvoideae - Malvaceae): macro- and micromorphology
ABSTRACT Fruit morphology of the tribe Malveae has been discussed since the first taxonomic classifications of Malvaceae. The fruits are schizocarps, with some genera possessing an endoglossum. Besides morphological variation in the endoglossum, other differences include the number seeds per locule and ornamentation of the exocarp. An in-depth study of the f

8. Insect galls on Bauhinia cupulata (Fabaceae): morphotypes characterization and description of a new species of Schizomyia (Cecidomyiidae, Diptera)
ABSTRACT Galls on Bauhinia cupulata (Fabaceae) were investigated in two physiognomies of the Cerrado, riparian and dry forest, in the municipality of Barreiras (Western Bahia, Brazil) from October 2012 to July 2014. Four insect gall morphotypes were found. They were characterized based on shape, color, indumentum, plant organ of occurrence and galling taxon.

9. Uses of wild vertebrates in traditional medicine by farmers in the region surrounding the Serra do Conduru State Park (Bahia, Brazil)

10. Hatchability of gemmules of two Neotropical freshwater sponges (Porifera: Spongillida)
As gêm
