1. Freshwater fishes of the Parque Nacional dos Lençóis Maranhenses and adjacent areas

2. Chromosome evolution in fishes: a new challenging proposal from Neotropical species
We present a database containing cytogenetic data of Neotropical actinopterygian fishes from Venezuela obtained in a single laboratory for the first time. The results of this study include 103 species belonging to 74 genera assigned to 45 families and 17 out of the 40 teleost orders. In the group of marine fishes, the modal diploid number was 2n=48 represent

3. Priocharax nanus, a new miniature characid from the rio Negro, Amazon basin (Ostariophysi: Characiformes), with an updated list of miniature Neotropical freshwater fishes
Priocharax nanus, espécie nova, é descrita do rio Negro, Brasil.

4. On the origin and diversification of Venezuelan freshwater fishes: the genus Gephyrocharax (Ostariophysi: Characidae) a case study

The catfishes of the Pseudoplatystoma genus are carnivore pimelodids, migratory and important for fisheries in all major river basins from South America. Only three species were recognized for the genus (P. corruscans, P. fasciatum and P. tigrinum), but a new revision raised to eight the number of species (P. fasciatum, P. punctifer, P. orinocoense, P. magda

6. Capillostrongyloides arapaimae sp. n. (Nematoda: Capillariidae), a new intestinal parasite of the arapaima Arapaima gigas from the Brazilian Amazon
A new nematode species, Capillostrongyloides arapaimae sp. n., is described from the intestine and pyloric caeca of the arapaima, Arapaima gigas (Schinz), from the Mexiana Island, Amazon river delta, Brazil. It is characterized mainly by the length of the spicule (779-1,800 µm), the large size of the body (males and gravid females 9.39-21.25 and 13.54-27.70

7. Molecular cloning and sequence analysis of growth hormone cDNA of Neotropical freshwater fish Pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus)
RT-PCR was used for amplifying Piaractus mesopotamicus growth hormone (GH) cDNA obtained from mRNA extracted from pituitary cells. The amplified fragment was cloned and the complete cDNA sequence was determined. The cloned cDNA encompassed a sequence of 543 nucleotides that encoded a polypeptide of 178 amino acids corresponding to mature P. mesopotamicus GH.

8. Phylogenetic relationships of the species of the Rineloricaria Bleeker, 1862 (Siluriformes, Loricariidae, Loricariinae) / Relações filogenéticas das espécies do gênero Rineloricaria Bleeker, 1862 (Siluriformes, Loricariidae, Loricariinae)
The species of Rineloricaria are typical members of Loricariinae subfamily, family Loricariidae, traditionally characterized by the presence of odontodes covering the body, strongly depressed body and absence of adipose fin. Rineloricaria comprises 65 nominal species and it is the most speciesrich genus in the subfamily Loricariinae. Previous phylogenetic st

9. Efeitos genotóxicos e mutagênicos da fração solúvel do óleo diesel em uma espécie de peixe Neotropical
ABSTRACT The present work shows results of the mutagenicity and genotoxicity evaluation of the comercial diesel oil fraction on freshwater fishes Prochilodus lineatus (Characiformes: Prochilodontidae), ordinarily known as curimba. The water containing the diesel oil soluble fraction was obtained through simulation of the spill in tropical environment. In the
