Evolution and ecology of trichomes in Bignonieae (Bignoniaceae): morphological structures of anti-herbivory defense?
This thesis focused on the evolutionary-ecology of trichomes in the tribe Bignonieae (Bignoniaceae), and in the potential defensive role of these structures against herbivores. More specifically, we characterized four trichome morphotypes found in vegetative plant parts of representatives of the Bignonieae, as well as studied the macro-evolutionary patterns

14. Ingeae Benth. (Leguminosae Mimosoideae) no estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil: taxonomia, morfoanatomia de nectários extraflorais e padrões de distribuição geográfica / Ingeae Benth. (Leguminosae, Mimosoideae) in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil: taxonomy, morphoanatomy of extrafloral nectaries and geographic distribution patterns
Ingeae Benth.

15. Composição e sazonalidade de borboletas frugívoras no cerrado, com ênfase na relação fenológica entre Eunica bechina (Nymphalidae: Biblidinae) e sua planta hospedeira Caryocar brasiliense (Caryocaraceae) / Composition and seasonality of fruit-feeding butterflies in the cerrado savanna, with emphasis on the phenological relationship between Eunica bechina (Nymphalidae: Biblidinae) and its host plant Caryocar brasiliense (Caryocaraceae)
In many tropical environments, rainy and dry seasons alternate. The dryer season has decreased leaf availability and the nutritional quality of leaves is also low - thus it is an unfavorable period for herbivorous insects and generates seasonal oscillations in their populations. The cerrado is a neotropical seasonal biome characterized by a hot/rainy and a c

16. New record of predatory ladybird beetle (Coleoptera, Coccinellidae) feeding on extrafloral nectaries

17. Secretory structures of Ipomoea asarifolia: anatomy and histochemistry
Ipomoea asarifolia (Desr.) Roem. & Schult., Convolvulaceae, is a weed that infests agricultural areas and is toxic to cattle. In spite of its toxicity, the leaves of this plant are used in traditional remedies in the state of Bahia, Brazil. The present work describes the leaf anatomy of I. asarifolia and characterizes the exudates of its secretory structures

18. Ocurrence and structure of extrafloral nectaries in Pterodon pubescens Benth. and Pterodon polygalaeflorus Benth.

Ants are one of the most prominent groups of terrestrial organisms in terms of diversity, relative abundance and biomass. Their importance is due primarily to eusocial behavior combined with complex communication systems. Tropical foliage is rich in renewable feeding sources that promote ant foraging. As some of the most important predators on plants, ants s

21. Ecologia das interações entre Udranomia spitzi (Lepidoptera, Hesperiidae) e formigas tendo como hospedeira Ouratea spectabilis (Ochnaceae) em um cerrado mineiro / Ecology of interactions between Udranomia spitzi (Lepidoptera, Hesperiidae) and ants on Ouratea spectabilis (Ochnaceae) in a savanna from Minas Gerais state, Brazil
Studies in multitrophic systems can serve as tools to investigate the structure and organization of ecological communities. Because it is a biome rich in multitrophic interactions, the Cerrado (tropical savanna) is a good model for the study of insect-plant interactions. Udranomia spitzi (Hesperiidae) is an endemic butterfly from Cerrado. In the immature sta

22. The loss of leaf and its relation to genus Ectatomma (Formicidae:Ecatomminae) in a cerrado community / A perda de área foliar e sua relação com o gênero Ectatomma (Formicidae: Ectatomminae) em uma comunidade de cerrado
The loss of leaf area, mostly resulting from the action of herbivores is one of the factors that regulate the reproductive success of a plant and indirectly to all consumers connected to the community. Most studies of herbivory and leaf loss are punctual, i.e., refer to one or a few plant species. In the cerrado, a tropical savanna in Brazil, the largest sav

Ecological interactions represent essential tools for a better understanding of natural communities, having in animal-plant relationships important models for study. For that, become needful phenological analyses of plants, capable of demonstrating the flowering strategies and with it the ways of temporal organization of resources available for herbivores. T

TAXONOMIC REVISION AND PHYLOGENETIC STUDIES OF Mimosa L. sect. Calothamnos Barneby (Leguminosae-Mimosoideae). Mimosa is the second largest genus of Mimosoideae, after Acacia s.l., with about 530 species, mainly distributed in the Neotropics in diferent types of vegetations, from forests to deserts. Traditionally, the genus was divided into five sections: Mim
