1. Infection by the microsporidium of Clado Nosema/Vairimorpha in pupal parasitoids
Abstract: The sugarcane borer, Diatraea saccharalis is one of the hosts more used for parasitoid pupal multiplication in Brazil. The parasitoids pupal of Trichospilus diatraeae and Palmistichus elaeisis are generalist natural enemies with potential to suppress populations of diverse families of lepidopteran pests. The success in the utilization of these natu

2. Enterocytozoon bieneusi detected by molecular methods in raw sewage and treated effluent from a combined system in Brazil
BACKGROUND Enterocytozoon bieneusi are the most common microsporidia associated with different clinical manifestations such as diarrhoea, respiratory tract inflammation and acalculous cholecystitis, especially in immunocompromised patients. Infection usually occurs by ingestion of food and water contaminated with spores, but can also result from direct cont

3. Bombus brasiliensis Lepeletier (Hymenoptera, Apidae) infected with Nosema ceranae (Microsporidia)
ABSTRACT Heavy infections caused by a microsporidium were detected in midgut epithelium cells of two adult workers of the bumble bee Bombus brasiliensis Lepeletier collected near Puerto Iguazú, Misiones province, Argentina. Microsporidium rRNA (16S small subunit) was amplified by 218MITOC primers and produced amplicons indicating presence of Nosema ceranae

4. Description of microsporidia in simulids: molecular and morphological characterization of microsporidia in the larvae of Simulium pertinax Kollar (Diptera: Simuliidae)
IntroductionMicrosporidia constitute the most common black fly pathogens, although the species' diversity, seasonal occurrence and transmission mechanisms remain poorly understood. Infections by this agent are often chronic and non-lethal, but they can cause reduced fecundity and decreased longevity. The objective of this study was to identify microsporidia

5. Alterações nos parâmetros biológicos de Diatraea saccharalis (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) e Cotesia flavipes (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) causadas por Nosema sp. (Microsporidia: Nosematidae) / Alterations in biological parameters of Diatraea saccharalis (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) and Cotesia flavipes (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) caused by Nosema sp. (Microsporidia: Nosematidae)

6. Intestinal microsporidiosis: a hidden risk in rheumatic disease patients undergoing anti-tumor necrosis factor therapy combined with disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs?
OBJECTIVE: Immunosuppressed patients are at risk of microsporidiosis, and this parasitosis has an increased rate of dissemination in this population. Our objective was to evaluate the presence of microsporidiosis and other intestinal parasites in rheumatic disease patients undergoing anti-tumor necrosis factor/disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug treatment.

7. Draft genome sequence of the Daphnia pathogen Octosporea bayeri : insights into the gene content of a large microsporidian genome and a model for host-parasite interactions
Background: The highly compacted 2.9-Mb genome of Encephalitozoon cuniculi placed the microsporidia in the spotlight, encoding a mere 2,000 proteins and a highly reduced suite of biochemical pathways. This extreme level of reduction is not universal across the microsporidia, with genomes known to vary up to sixfold in size, suggesting that some genomes may h

10. Enterocytozoon bieneusi (microsporidia) in faecal samples from domestic animals from Galicia, Spain
In this survey we examined 87 domestic animal stool samples in order to detect the possible presence of microsporidia in animals in close contact with humans in Galicia (NW, Spain). The detection of Enterocytozoon bieneusi spores was confirmed in faecal samples from two dogs and one goat by polymerase chain reaction. None of the positive samples for microspo

11. Microsporidia and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome
Microsporidia is a common term that has been used to refer to a group of eukaryotic, obligate intracellular protozoan parasites belonging to the phylum Microspora. They are important agricultural parasites, contaminating commercial insects; they are also important by infecting laboratory rodents, rabbits and primates. Ever since the early cases found by Maga

12. Infections by protozoa in immunocompromised hosts
Protozoa are among the most important pathogens that can cause infection in immunocompromised patients. They infect particularly individuals with impaired cell immunity, such as those with hematologic neoplasias, those submitted to transplant of solid organs, those under high-dose corticosteroid therapy, and carriers of the human immunodeficiency virus.
