13. Nickel adsorption by variable charge soils: effect of pH and ionic strength
The effects of pH and ionic strength (I) on Ni adsorption in variable charge soils were evaluated by laboratory batch experiments. Experimental results fitted the Langmuir model. Maximum adsorption (Ads max) ranged from 260-2818 mg kg-1 (topsoil) to 532-1541 mg kg-1 (subsoil). Nickel affinity (K L) was higher in the subsoil samples (0.022-0.236 L kg-1) than

15. Characterization and evaluation of copper and nickel biosorption on acidic algae Sargassum Filipendula
The marine algae Sargassum filipendula was collected from São Paulo seashore (Brazil) and submitted to treatment with acid. The biosorption mechanisms of Cu2+ and Ni2+ ions onto acidic algae Sargassum filipendula were examined using various analytical techniques: Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dis

16. Application of biowaste (waste generated in biodiesel plant) as an adsorbent for the removal of hazardous bye - methylene blue - from aqueous phase
Solid waste (SW) from a biodiesel plant has been successfully used for the removal of the hazardous cationic water soluble dye - methylene blue (MB) - from an aqueous phase. Batch adsorption studies were carried out by monitoring the pH, amount of adsorbent, initial dye concentration and contact time. Attempts have also been made to monitor the adsorption pr

17. Eficiência agronômica de fertilizantes fosfatados em solos com diferentes capacidades de adsorção de fósforo e teores de matéria orgânica / Agronomic efficiency of phosphate fertilizers in soils with different capacity of phosphate adsorption and organic matter levels
Tropical soils highly intemperized show increased capability on phosphorus (P) adsorption. Several factors may influence P adsorption in such soils, but special attention must be paid on the organic matter level. Mechanisms involved in this process are related to the release of organic acids derived from the decomposition of the organic matter, which may eit

19. Secagem de biomassa de levedura (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) em um secador atmosferico condutivo com agitação mecanica : caracterização e avaliação do produto seco como bioadsorvente e complemento nutricional / Drying of yeast biomass (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) in a mechanically shaken conductive atmospheric dryer : characterization and evaluation of the dry material as bioadsorbent and nutritional complement
This thesis allowed evaluating the conductive atmospheric dryer with mechanical agitation, using glass beads as inert particles for drying a residue from brewery (yeast of Saccharomyces cerevisiae species) after being used eight times. The dryer was operated with the sediment load of yeast (150 g and 300 g), heating surface temperature (60 ºC and 90 ºC) an

20. MODIFICATION OF SILICA PROPILETILENODIAMINA WITH FORMALDEHYDE - A STUDY OF EQUILIBRIUM AND THE KINETICS OF ADSORPTION OF CADMIUM, LEAD AND CHROMATE IONS. / Modificação da sílica propiletilenodiamina com formaldeído, estudo do equilíbrio e da cinética de adsorção dos íons cádmio, chumbo e cromato
In this work, modified silica gel with the group aminopropiletanoimina was used as retention capacity for the ions cadmium, lead and cromate. The tests were accomplished in aqueous solutions under different conditions of pH, in constant temperature of 2981 K. The number of mol of the organic chain anchored to the matrix was 0,97mmol /g. The analysis of the c

21. Adsorção individual e competitiva de Cd, Cu, Ni e Zn em solos em função da variação de pH / Individual and competitive adsorption of Cd, Cu, Ni and Zn in soils as a function of pH variation
The disposal of solid waste or the application of pesticides and fertilizers may increase the concentration of potentially toxic elements, especially heavy metals, in soil and in groundwater. As the soil has been considered a potential deposit for the provision of such wastes, it is important to know the mechanisms of retention and transport of these element
