13. Using processed feeds for laying quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica)
The aim of this experiment was to determine the productive performance and egg quality of Japanese quails fed different types of processed rations (mash, extruded, or pelleted). One hundred and forty-four 18-w-old quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) were housed in galvanized wire cages and fed a 21.50% CP and 2850 kcal ME/kg basal feed supplied in mash, extr

14. The importance of endogenous nutrition of chicks from divergent strains for growing tested by deutectomy
Effects of yolk sac removal (deutectomy) upon performance of chicks from three divergent strains were tested to evaluate the importance of endogenous nutrition on the post-hatch phase. Chicks from three different strains (Hy-Line W98, Cobb 500, and JA57) were submitted to a surgery procedure after hatching. Half of them had the residual yolk removed, and the

In the barley malting process, partial hydrolysis of β-glucans begins with seed germination. However, the endogenous 1,3-1,4-β-glucanases are heat inactivated, and the remaining high molecular weight β-glucans may cause severe problems such as increased brewer mash viscosity and turbidity. Increased viscosity impairs pumping and filtration, re

A pesqui

18. Diets formulated on total or digestible amino acid basis with different energy levels and physical form on broiler performance
We studied the effects of two different systems of expressing amino acid requirements (total - TAA or digestible - DAA), two energy levels (2,900 or 3,200 kcal of ME/kg) and two physical forms (mash or pellet) on the performance of male broilers from 21 to 42 d of age. Diets formulated on DAA basis improved feed conversion (p<0.001) and the conversion of con

19. Uso de complexo enzimÃtico em raÃÃes fareladas e peletizadas para frangos de corte / Use of enzyme complex in mash and pelleted diets for broiler chickens

20. Effects of corn particle size and physical form of the diet on the gastrointestinal structures of broiler chickens
The objective of this experiment was to investigate the effects of different particle sizes, expressed as Geometric Mean Diameter (GMD) of corn (0.336mm, 0.585mm, 0.856mm and 1.12mm) of mash and pelleted broiler chicken diets on the weight of the gizzard, duodenum and jejunum+ileum; on the pH of the gizzard and small intestine and on the characteristics of t

21. Influencia do tratamento de superficie em uma liga de paladio-prata na resistencia de união de agentes cimentantes
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of four metal surface treatments on the shear bond strength of three luting agents. Cast samples in a disk shape (5 mm in diameter) were made with palladium-silver alloy and grouped in pairs afier ultrasonic cleaning. The pairs were assigned into four groups of 30 each and submitted to the following tre

Bioprocess for cephalosporin C production in fed-batch fermentor was studied concermng medium composition, specific productivity and rheological characterization. The batch process was performed in shake flasks and in 5 liters stirred tank reactor provided with pH, temperature, aeration and agitation control. In the shake flask experiments the performance of

23. BMP-2 decreases Mash1 stability by increasing Id1 expression
In neural development, bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) restrict neuronal differentiation, thereby promoting the maintenance of progenitor cells or even inducing astrocytogenesis. We report that exposure of neuroendocrine lung carcinoma cells to BMP-2 leads to a rapid decline in steady-state levels of Mash1 protein and some neuron-specific markers. BMP-2 i

24. DNA binding and transcriptional regulatory activity of mammalian achaete-scute homologous (MASH) proteins revealed by interaction with a muscle-specific enhancer.
The MASH genes are vertebrate homologues of achaete-scute, genes required for neuronal determination in Drosophila. The sequence of MASH1 and MASH2 contains a basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) motif that is present in other transcriptional regulators such as MyoD and E12. In the absence of an authentic target for the MASH proteins, we examined their DNA binding
