1. Determination of Electric and Magnetic Field Calculation Uncertainty in the Vicinity of Overhead Transmission Lines
Abstract This paper presents a new approach for uncertainty determination of the electric field intensity and magnetic flux density calculation in the vicinity of overhead transmission lines. The proposed method is based on the law of propagation of uncertainty as defined in the Guide to the expression of Uncertainty in Measurement. A mathematical model is d

2. The BigFLUX Magnetic Matrix Technology
Abstract The Magnetic separation of ultra-fine ore particles has always posed a challenge to the JONES/WHIMS process. Despite many advances in this technology, no effective improvement has been made to its core component: The Magnetic Matrix. The current approach to separate ultra-fine particles teaches that the gap of the matrix and its teeth size must be s

3. Methodology to Generate a Reluctance Network Applied to Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators
Abstract This paper presents a methodology for the generation of a static reluctance network, with magnetomotive sources only in the rotor, applied in the analysis and design of surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous generators. In the analysis stage, this network can provide the magnetic flux in several points of the generator, enabling an estimate of

4. Optimization Techniques and Mathematical Modeling Applied to Reluctance Motors
Abstract The present work aims at the application of different optimization strategies in the electromagnetic analysis of the Variable Reluctance Motor (VRM) through Finite Element (FE) simulation. Two case studies are investigated: the first one aims to optimize the geometry and electrical characteristics of windings of a single-phase VRM 6/6, minimizing co

5. Radially Periodic Metasurface Lenses for Magnetic Field Collimation in Resonant Wireless Power Transfer Applications
Abstract In this paper, a new procedure and topology of magnetic metasurface lens are proposed for improving the performance of Resonant Wireless Power Transfer systems. Firstly, three subwave-length unit cells are optimized in order to get negative magnetic permeability in the same frequency, each one with a different refractive index, and they are experime

6. Magnetic topology with axial flux concentration: a technique to improve permanent-magnet motor performance
Abstract This article presents a different topology for the magnetic circuit of permanent-magnet motors, using the concept of Axial Flux Concentration. By means of longitudinal extension of the rotor length beyond the stator core, a substantial increase in the flux per pole is enabled, improving the general performance of the machine. Even in low cost motors

7. The Challenge to Scavenge IRON from Tailings Produced By FLOTATION A New Approach: The Super-WHIMS & the BigFLUX Magnetic Matrix
Abstract Tailings recovery has been a constant challenge for most engineers. Along more than five years, GAUSTEC joined major players in the mining Industry to scavenge Iron from tailings produced by flotation making use of WHIMS (Wet High Intensity Magnetic Separation). In the early 1980s, in USA, the US 4,192,738 patent was granted with promising results.

8. Development of an Analytical Method to Predict the Behaviour of the Magnetic Field in PM Linear Motors with Halbach Array
Abstract This paper describes the application of the method of separation of variables and the use of Fourier series for solving the Laplace's and Poisson's equations on the study and analysis of the magnetic field produced in a linear motor with Halbach array. Equations for predicting the 2D magnetic flux density distribution produced in the air gap were de

9. Syntheses and Fundamental Properties of Cr/Mo-Adoped Fe-Rich Alloys With Metastable Phase and Saturation Magnetization Near 1.9 T
The Fe-rich alloys of Fe90-xSi5B5Mx (M= Cr or Mo; x=1, 2) are synthesized in the present study. The as-spun structure mainly consists of bcc phase plus a minor amount of metastable phase (Fe3B and/or Fe23B6). Comparing with the base alloy Fe90Si5B5, the corrosion resistance is improved significantly due to the formation of the passive film. Saturation magnet

10. Comparison Between the Heating Rates of a Magnetic Induction Soldering Iron and Another One Composed of Resistance
AbstractIn this work an experimental and comparative analysis is realized in order to determine the difference in the heating rate and thus the power consumption, between a magnetic induction soldering iron and another one of low cost composed of electric resistance. By maintaining a constant power supply 40 W, three models of comercial tips designed for the

This paper presents a FEM analysis of a hybrid excitation brushless axial flux machine (HEBAFM) for traction electric vehicle purposes in order to compare with the results from an analytical method used to determine the flux densities in each part of the machine. The magnetic quantities of the proposed topology were investigated in order to obtain a satisfac

12. An analysis on electric and magnetic behaviour on an induction planar actuator
The induction planar actuator, i.e. IPA, proposed in this study presents an electromagnetic structure formed by a static ferromagnetic core with an aluminium plate that corresponds to the secondary, and a mover, also called primary. The latter comprehends two three-phase windings, mounted in an armature core, which are orthogonal to each other. When they are
