25. MORPHOLOGY AND IMMUNOHISTOCHEMISTRY OF ALIMENTARY SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA ASSOCIATED WITH Pteridium aquilinum IN CATTLE / MORFOLOGIA E IMUNOISTOQUÍMICA DOS CARCINOMAS DE CÉLULAS ESCAMOSAS ALIMENTARES ASSOCIADOS AO CONSUMO DE Pteridium aquilinum EM BOVINOS
To determine the main factors influencing the biological behavior of 40 squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) of the upper digestive tract (UDT) of cattle associated with spontaneous ingestion of bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum), morphological, including cell proliferation, and immunohistochemical aspects were studied. The aspects analyzed included anatomical loc

26. Myofibroblasts are frequent in the stroma and invasive front of oral squamous cell carcinomas where they control the tumoral behavior by stimulating cellular proliferation and matrix metalloproteinase 2 activity of the tumor cells / Miofibroblastos são frequentes no estroma e no fronte invasivo dos carcinomas espinocelulares orais onde controlam o comportamento tumoral por estimular a proliferação celular e a atividade da metaloproteinase de matriz 2 das celulas tumorais
Myofibroblasts are characterized by the expression of elevated amounts of growth factors, proteases and extracellular matrix, which may influence the tumor progression. Recent studies have detected myofibroblasts in the stroma of several tumors, including those of breast, kidney, liver, bladder, colon and prostate, being the presence of those cells associate

28. "Contribuição ao estudo da influência da radiação ionizante pré-operatória sobre a marcação do linfonodo sentinela do reto com azul patente: estudo experimental em ratos" / Contribution to the study of the influence of preoperative ionizing radiation on the identification of the sentinel lymph node with patent blue : an experimental study in rats
Previous ionizing radiation induces actinic alterations in peritumoral tissues and thus might influence the localization of the sentinel lymph node. The present study developed an experimental model for the localization of the sentinel lymph node of the rectum of the rat and for the definition of the dose of radiation (calibration curve). The objective was t

29. "Predição do risco de metástase do carcinoma bem diferenciado da glândula tireóide pela quantificação digital da imunoexpressão da galectina-3 nos compartimentos do tireócito maligno" / Prediction of metastasis risk in well-differentiated thyroid carcinoma based on digital quantification of galectin-3 immunoexpression in subcellular compartments of the malignant thyrocyte
INTRODUCTON: Papillary and follicular carcinomas are primary malignant neoplasias of the thyroid gland and are classified as well-differentiated carcinoma. In these cases, determination of individual risk of metastasis allows offering an adequate treatment. Nowadays therapy is chosen based on classification according to prognostic factors and biomarkers can

30. Vertical growth phase and positive sentinel node in thin melanoma
Sentinel node (SN) status is the most important prognostic factor for localized melanoma. Usually, patients with Breslow thickness of less than 1.0 mm are not included in SN protocols. However, the literature presents a rate ranging from 3 to 7% of nodal recurrence in thin melanoma. Ulceration, regression and high mitotic rate have been considered to be indi

31. Disseminação linfática na endometriose colorretal
A 40-year-old female patient presented abdominal pain during her periods and progressing constipation during the last 6 years. Retosigmoidoscopy showed a stenotic lesion 14cm above the anal verge. The patient underwent a retosigmoidectomy and the specimen was sent to histopathologic exam. The diagnose was endometriosis with the involvement of the colon and r

32. Nodal Lymphangiogenesis and Metastasis : Role of Tumor-Induced Lymphatic Vessel Activation in Extramammary Paget’s Disease
Nodal lymphangiogenesis promotes distant lymph node (LN) metastasis in experimental cancer models. However, the role of nodal lymphangiogenesis in distant metastasis and in the overall survival of cancer patients remains unknown. Therefore, we investigated mechanisms that might facilitate regional and distant LN metastasis in extramammary Paget’s disease (

33. Blockade of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-3 signaling inhibits fibroblast growth factor-2-induced lymphangiogenesis in mouse cornea
Vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-3 (VEGFR-3) is a major mediator of lymphangiogenesis. Recently, VEGFR-3 ligands, VEGF-C, and VEGF-D were reported to promote tumor lymphangiogenesis and lymphatic metastasis, and these processes were inhibited by blocking of the VEGFR-3-signaling pathway. Here, we have adapted the mouse corneal angiogenesis assay t

34. Lymphatic and local spread of T1 and T2 pancreatic cancer. A study of autopsy material.
Eight autopsy cases of pancreatic cancer (duct cell adenocarcinoma) with T1 and T2 primary tumors were studied histologically to examine the exact extent of lymphatic and local spread. Six of them had microscopic metastasis in grossly negative lymph nodes near the primary tumor. In addition, four of them had a few metastatic nodes in the para-aortic region.

36. Lymphatic spread of pagetic osteogenic sarcoma detected by bone scan
Bone scans are widely utilized for detection of metastases from bone sarcomas. Technetium methylene diphosphonate scan ([99mTc]MDP) is one of the most popular radiotracers used for that purpose. Lymphatic spread of bone sarcomas is unusual and often difficult to diagnose. Unfortunately, bone scans are not as sensitive in demonstrating lymphatic spread of sar
