Development of an intelligent alarm system for patient multiparametric monitoring equipaments.
The objective of this work is the development of an Intelligent Alarm System architecture aiming at its application on a Multiparameter Patient Monitoring Equipment, which must be in compliance to international electrical medical equipment safety standards. This theme was raised during the project of a Multiparameter Patient Monitoring Equipment developed at

4. Alexia with agraphia of kanji (Japanese morphograms).
The case of the right-handed young Japanese woman with alexia with agraphia of kanji (the Japanese morphograms) due to a small circumscribed haematoma in the left posterior inferior temporal gyrus is described. Her chief complaint was the inability to read and write kanji. Detailed examination showed that her alexia with agraphia was much more predominant fo

5. A randomized trial on folic acid supplementation and risk of recurrent colorectal adenoma123
Background: Evidence from observational studies suggests that inadequate folate status enhances colorectal carcinogenesis, but results from some randomized trials do not support this hypothesis.

6. Pure agraphia of kanji due to thrombosis of the Labbé vein.
A case is described of a 56 year old Japanese male with pure agraphia of kanji (the Japanese morphograms) due to haemorrhagic infarction of the left temporal lobe caused by the rare condition of cortical vein thrombosis of Labbé. Writing kanji was severely impaired without disturbed consciousness, aphasia or apraxia. On the other hand, writing kana (the Jap

7. Powerful bactericidal activity of sparfloxacin (AT-4140) against Mycobacterium tuberculosis in mice.
The bactericidal activities of various monotherapies and combined regimens were compared in mice at different stages after infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. These therapies mimicked the initial and continuation phases of chemotherapy for human tuberculosis. As monotherapy, the bactericidal activity of sparfloxacin (SPFX) was dose related; the activi

8. Effect of Photoperiod on Stomatal Opening in Vicia faba1
Stomatal apertures in darkness and subsequent average opening rates in light were measured in Vicia faba leaf discs throughout the nyctoperiods for plants grown on three light:dark cycles (8:16, 12:12, and 16:8). The time course of opening in darkness depended on the specific light:dark cycle with the maximum aperture always occurring at the time the lights

9. Effect of Colored Light on Stomatal Opening Rates of Vicia faba L 1
The average opening rate of Vicia faba L. stomata was determined over an initial 20-minute light period following darkness. Nonsaturating intensities of broad band red and blue light had similar quantum effectiveness for the promotion of opening, whereas broad band green was about 40% and far red about 5% as effective. The opening rates under saturating red,

10. Characterization of the cydAB-Encoded Cytochrome bd Oxidase from Mycobacterium smegmatis
The cydAB genes from Mycobacterium smegmatis have been cloned and characterized. The cydA and cydB genes encode the two subunits of a cytochrome bd oxidase belonging to the widely distributed family of quinol oxidases found in prokaryotes. The cydD and cydC genes located immediately downstream of cydB encode a putative ATP-binding cassette-type transporter.
