13. Lung Ultrasound in COVID 19 Outbreak: Can we Reduce the Burden from the Overloaded CT Departments?
Abstract Insect bites and bite wounds are quite common and most often have mild repercussions in humans. Statistics on the incidence of accidents caused by insects are not available, and the skin reactions after the bites are not always known. The authors present two cases of patients with hemorrhagic blisters on their hands after tabanidae bites and discuss

14. Inhibition of Brazilian ZIKV strain replication in primary human placental chorionic cells and cervical cells treated with nitazoxanide
ABSTRACT Zika virus (ZIKV) infection during pregnancy is associated with a congenital syndrome. Although the virus can be detected in human placental tissue and sexual transmission has been verified, it is not clear how the virus reaches the fetus. Despite the emerging severity caused by ZIKV infection, no specific prophylactic and/or therapeutic treatment i

15. Effectiveness of coffee leaf miner control associated with spray deposition in coffee leaves
ABSTRACT Coffee production faces challenges due to the susceptibility of the crop to insects. Owing to the coffee leaf miner Leucoptera coffeella, which is one of the main insect pests, the technology for the application of phytosanitary measures becomes the main challenge for coffee growers. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of coffee leaf mine

16. Analysis of the Gene Expression and RNAi-Mediated Knockdown of Chitin Synthase from Leaf-Cutting Ant Atta sexdens
Chitin synthase (CHS) is the enzyme specifically associated with chitin synthesis, an important component of diverse organisms including insects. Two alternative spliced transcripts of the CHS gene (AsCHS-A1 and AsCHS-A2) were identified by quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) during the development of the leaf-cutting ant A

17. Effects of entomopathogenic nematodes Steinernema carpocapsae and Heterorhabditis bacteriophora on the fitness of a Vip3A resistant subpopulation of Heliothis virescens (Noctuidae: Lepidoptera)
ABSTRACT The widespread use of transgenic plants imposes selection pressure on insect pest populations to develop insecticide resistance. Evaluation of effectiveness of resistance management strategies is very important in resistance management programs. Resistance management to insecticides is widely believed to depend in part on associated fitness costs. F

18. Pollen sources used by Frieseomelitta Ihering 1912 (Hymenoptera: Apidae: Meliponini) bees along the course of the Rio Negro, Amazonas, Brazil
ABSTRACT Insect pollination has influenced the evolution and diversification of angiosperms. Consequently, knowing plants used as food sources by bees, the most important pollinator group, is the first step toward understanding how their ecological relationships works. Pollen source information is also highly relevant for bee management and associated fruit

19. Selection to high productivity and stink bugs resistance by multivariate data analyses in soybean
ABSTRACT Stink bugs that affect soybeans are responsible for significant losses in seed production, quality and germination potential, in addition to hindering the mechanized harvest. To develop insect resistant materials, the breeder can compile a selection index by factor analysis. Therefore, the objective of this work was to validate the use of factor ana

20. Quantitative and qualitative damages of Oebalus poecilus on irrigated rice in southern Brazil
ABSTRACT Oebalus poecilus is one of the most important pests of irrigated rice in Brazil. However, the impact of this species on the cultivar IRGA 424 RI, which is the most used, is unknown. Hence, the objective of this work is to evaluate the damage caused by O. poecilus on cv IRGA 424 RI. Panicles of this cultivar were infested for seven days at the R5 sta

21. Metabolization of Insecticidal Amides from Leaves of Piper tuberculatum by Heraclydes hectorides and Naupactus bipes
Amides have been recognized as potent insecticidal natural products but, despite their variety of targets and mechanisms of action, their metabolic fate in insects is virtually unknown. The currently accepted hypothesis is that specialist herbivores are capable of biotransforming xenobiotics rendering them more polar and excretable while generalist insects d

22. Transcription factors and molecular markers revealed asymmetric contributions between allotetraploid Upland cotton and its two diploid ancestors
ABSTRACT Three Gossypium species have been used to breed cotton as they vary in their fiber production and resistance to stresses. Transcription factors (TFs) mostly are present in different copies or isoforms by which they conduct their regulation. Their copy number can determine organism behavior to a cue. Simple sequence repeats (SSRs) are one of the most

23. The carrion beetle Oxelytrum discicolle (Coleoptera: Silphidae) and the estimative of the minimum post-mortem interval in a forensic case in Brasília, Brazil
Abstract The order Coleoptera is considered second highest in forensic importance in criminal cases involving violent death, because members of this order increase in richness and abundance as the decomposition process progresses. We present here the first Forensic Entomology (FE) case in Brazil where the carrion beetle, Oxelytrum discicolle (Coleoptera: Sil

24. Insect galls on Bauhinia cupulata (Fabaceae): morphotypes characterization and description of a new species of Schizomyia (Cecidomyiidae, Diptera)
ABSTRACT Galls on Bauhinia cupulata (Fabaceae) were investigated in two physiognomies of the Cerrado, riparian and dry forest, in the municipality of Barreiras (Western Bahia, Brazil) from October 2012 to July 2014. Four insect gall morphotypes were found. They were characterized based on shape, color, indumentum, plant organ of occurrence and galling taxon.
