1. Congenital solitary reticulohistiocytosis (Hashimoto - Pritzker)
Abstract Congenital and self-healing Hashimoto-Pritzker reticulohistiocytosis is the benign variant of the Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) group. It is characterized by multiple skin lesions (congenital or appearing during the first days after birth), without systemic manifestations and spontaneous resolution in days to months. The authors report the cas

2. The influence of separately and combined bentonite and kaolinite as binders for pelletization of NaA zeolite from coal fly ash
Abstract Pelletization of zeolitic materials is required to facilitate their practical industrial and commercial applications. Zeolite-NaA was synthesized from fly ash by the fusion method and shaped into spherical granules. Bentonite, kaolinite, and a combination of bentonite with kaolinite were tested as binders with different contents from 5 to 10 wt%. Th

3. Autoantibodies against desmoglein 2 are not pathogenic in pemphigus
Abstract Background Anti-desmoglein 1 and 3 autoantibodies justify acantholysis in pemphigus; however, the pathogenesis of anti-desmoglein 2 is hypothetical. Objective To compare the participation of desmogleins 1, 2 and 3 through the production of serum autoantibodies, and protein and gene expression in the skin/mucosa of patients with pemphigus foliaceus

4. Optimization of potato starch gel formulation as green alternative of animal-sourced gelatin
Abstract This study was aimed at optimization of potato starch gel preparation process by response surface methodology and various process parameters were optimized for textural, gelation and sensory properties. 3D response surface and contour plots showed that independent variables, such as extraction time, extraction temperature and potato starch concentra

5. ERRATA
Abstract After natural fermentation and solar drying, sour cassava starch acquires expansion property. Traditionally, solar drying occurs without protection, and consequently physical contamination can arise. Thus, the aim of this study was to produce sour cassava starch using a low-cost solar dryer to prevent contamination, whilst retaining the expansion pr

7. The aquatic species Pontederia azurea and P. crassipes (Pontederiaceae) in the Pantanal, Brazil: evidence of how plant structure can simultaneously reflect phylogeny and ecology
ABSTRACT Hydric fluctuations in the Pantanal comprise annual dry and wet seasons that modify local diversity and plant morphology and anatomy. Widespread in this wetland are the sympatric Pontederia azurea and P. crassipes, which, although primarily aquatic, can also develop in non-flooded environments. This study undertook a comparative investigation of the

8. Calcium oxalate content from two Amazonian amilaceous roots and the functional properties of their isolated starches
Abstract The calcium oxalate content from two Amazonian amilaceous roots, Xanthosoma sagittifolium and Pachyrhizus tuberosus, before and after cooking were studied in the present work. Calcium oxalate raphides were observed by light microscopy in longitudinal sections from fresh tubers. The functional properties and physicochemical characteristics of isolate

9. Physicochemical, thermal and rheological properties of commercial wheat flours and corresponding starches
Abstract The quality attributes, including physicochemical, thermal and rheological properties of commercial bread, pau, multipurpose and cake flours, as well as their corresponding isolated starches were analyzed. Bread flour showed the highest solvent retention capacity (SRC) and gluten performance index (GPI), suggesting better functionality than others.

10. Tumor carcinoide na vesícula biliar em cão
ABSTRACT Carcinoid is a neoplasia that arises from dispersed cells of the neuroendocrine system. This tumor is uncommon in animals, and its occurrence in the gallbladder is rare. A male Basset Hound dog’s corpse was taken to the Univerdade Federal de Minas Gerais to be analyzed by the Veterinary Pathology sector, without a description of its previous histo

11. Cell damage induced by polybrominated diphenyl ethers on Chironomus sancticaroli (Diptera: Chironomidae)
Abstract Histological effects of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) were observed in Chironomus sancticaroli larvae which underwent acute exposure. 2,2′,4-triBDE (BDE-17), 2,2′,4,4′-tetraBDE (BDE-47) and 2,2′,4,4′,5-pentaBDE (BDE-99) were evaluated at 0.5, 2.0 and 20 μg L-1. Cytoplasm vacuolisation of oenocytes was observed in the larvae expos

12. Physicochemical, Thermal, Structural and Pasting Properties of Unconventional Starches from Ginger (Zingiber officinale) and White Yam (Dioscorea sp.)
Abstract Ginger and white yam starches were investigated and compared with maize starch. Proximal composition, thermogravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry, microscopy, colourimetry, X-ray powder diffractometry and pasting profile were analysed. The unconventional starches presented higher protein and ash contents than the maize starch, that had the h
