1. Patrimonial Citizenship

This study aims to analyze communications strategies of a group of Hispanics of different origins. For that purpose, we define communications strategies as resources used in face to face encounters to give meaning to what we want to express. These are broken down into analytical units based on the following theoretical models: cultural scripts, frames, and c

5. Visões de proteção social e transferência de renda condicionadas no Brasil e no México
This work analyses the Visions of Social Protection (VSP) related to Conditioned Cash Transfers (CCT) in Brasil and Mexico, Programa Bolsa Família (Family Grant Program) and Programa Oportunidades (Opportunities Program), respectively. The aim is to investigate the symbolic dimension of the public policies process, theme almost unexplored in Brazil, through

6. Riscos e controvérsias no processo de construção do conceito de alimento saudável
This research aims to analyze the controversies surrounding the risks and benefits evident in the social construction of the concept of healthy food. We have chosen to study the soybean with a dual focus: risks and benefits to human health, and risks and benefits to the environment. The study concentrated on the different ways that the expert system was infl

7. Human adult T-cell leukemia virus: complete nucleotide sequence of the provirus genome integrated in leukemia cell DNA.
Human retrovirus adult T-cell leukemia virus (ATLV) has been shown to be closely associated with human adult T-cell leukemia (ATL) [Yoshida, M., Miyoshi, I. & Hinuma, Y. (1982) Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 79, 2031-2035]. The provirus of ATLV integrated in DNA of leukemia T cells from a patient with ATL was molecularly cloned and the complete nucleotide sequen

8. Sequence identity between an inverted repeat family of transposable elements in Drosophila and Caenorhabditis.
The Tc1-like transposable elements, originally described in Caenorhabditis elegans, have a much wider phylogenetic distribution than previously thought. In this paper, we demonstrate that Tc1 shares sequence identity in its open reading frame and terminal repeats with a new transposable element Barney (also known as TCb1-Transposon Caenorhabditis briggsae 1)

9. Complete Sequence of the cap Locus of Haemophilus influenzae Serotype b and Nonencapsulated b Capsule-Negative Variants
The complete capsule (cap) loci from three Haemophilus influenzae strains, one serotype b (Hib) and two nonencapsulated b capsule-negative variants, were sequenced. Two new open reading frames, hcsA and hcsB, were identified in region III and thought to be involved in postpolymerization modification of the capsule. The location of the cap locus in the Haemop

10. The region of phage T4 genes 34, 33 and 59: primary structures and organization on the genome.
The product of gene 33 is essential for the regulation of late transcription and gene product 59 is required in recombination, DNA repair and replication. The exact functions of both proteins are not known. Restriction fragments spanning the genomic area of genes 33 and 59 have been cloned into phage M13 and a 4.9 kb nucleotide sequence has been determined.

11. Nucleotide sequence and expression of the mercurial-resistance operon from Staphylococcus aureus plasmid pI258.
The mercurial-resistance determinant from Staphylococcus aureus plasmid pI258 is located on a 6.4-kilobase-pair Bgl II fragment. The determinant was cloned into both Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli. Mercury resistance was found only in B. subtilis. The 6404-base-pair DNA sequence of the Bgl II fragment was determined. The mer DNA sequence includes sev

12. Sequence of a yeast DNA fragment containing a chromosomal replicator and a tRNA Glu 3 gene.
The sequence of a 1.9 kb Bam x Hind III fragment from yeast has been determined. This fragment is part of a yeast 6.7 kb Hind III segment cloned into pBR322 (pY20). The fragment carries a single gene for a glutamate tRNA which has no intron. According to genetic analyses [1] this fragment also contains a yeast chromosomal replicator. We have analyzed the seq
