13. Novel Food Supplements Formulated With S pirulina To Meet Athletes’ Needs
ABSTRACT The food, training, and health are crucial for a good performance in sports. Intense physical activity takes the athlete to maintain a very unstable balance between energy demand and consumption of nutrients. Spirulina microalga has a nutritional profile that renders it an ideal food supplement, because has high protein content, also contains vitami

14. Modulation of Physiologic Parameters in Molted Isa Brown Laying-Hens by Glutamine + Glutamic Acid Supplementation
ABSTRACT Feed costs are the main limiting factors in poultry industry and alternative sources of food and/or feed supplements to optimize the bird´s life cycle and to extend their production period need to be explored. This study evaluated morphometric parameters of the small intestine and gonadotropin transcript levels in Isa Brown laying hens supplemented

16. The effect of modified citrus pectin-probiotic on faecal lactobacilli in Balb/c mice
Abstract Intestinal bacteria utilize the constituent of ingested food for their metabolic activities making the gut microbiota a target in the modification of functional foods. This study examines the effect of modified citrus pectin and encapsulated probiotic, Lactobacillus acidophilus ATCC 4356 on colon lactobacilli microbiota in healthy Balb/c mice. Mice

17. Aspidosperma subincanum II. Usefulness of uleine and ribonucleic fragments in the treatment of AIDS patients
Aids patients were treated during a year with three different food supplements commercially available: para-pau-aspido (Aspidosperma subincanum Mart. ex A. DC., Apocynaceae); 2Leid (nucleic acids and cytokines); and Para Immuno (propolis, pollen and royal jelly). All foods, given either alone or in combination, proved useful to all AIDS patients who received

18. Aspidosperma subincanum I. characterisation, extraction of an uleine-enriched fraction and potential health hazard due to the contaminant ellipticine
The bark of the Brazilian tree Aspidosperma subincanum Mart. ex A. DC., Apocynaceae, has been characterised, and its constituents concentrated to obtain an uleine-enriched extract with the aim to produce food supplements. The concentration of the contaminant alkaloid ellipticine was assessed, and its potential to elicit toxic effects on consumers evaluated.

19. Performance and isotopic composition of 13C and 15N in muscle tissue of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fed with different protein / Desempenho produtivo e composição isotópica de 13C e 15N no tecido muscular de tilápia do Nilo (Oreochromis niloticus) alimentada com diferentes fontes protéicas
Alternative sources of food have been studied in substitution for fishmeal in aquaculture, and it may result in a difference in incorporation of carbon and nitrogen, depending on the nutritional value and availability of the source. Two experiments were designed to quantify the participation of different protein sources in the muscle tissue in juvenile and p

20. EFEITO in vitro DE Paullinia cupana NO METABOLISMO OXIDATIVO DE ESPERMATOZÓIDES HUMANOS EXPOSTOS AO CLORETO DE METILMERCÚRIO / EFFECT OF Paullinia cupana in vitro oxidative metabolism HUMAN SPERM EXPOSED TO CHLORIDE METHYLMERCURY
Investigations suggests that methylmercury (MeHg) toxicitiy is related to oxidative stress promotion caused by lipid peroxidation of cell membranes as well as genotoxicity. The methylmercury (MeHg) exposition causes production of adverse effects as deterioration of semen quality, testicular degeneration, and male reproductive failure. Since human sperm is a

The Nile tilapia is a specie that has been highlighted in recent years for various reasons, however, during their filleting there is a sub use of its chips, resulting in very rich protein sources waste that could be used in food. An alternative for these waste can be the development of protein hydrolyzed, which are constructed using enzymes that hydrolyze pr
