1. A Rational Procedure to Increase Selectivity in the Determination of an Elicitor as Salicylic Acid in Polygala Extracts Using Capillary Electrophoresis
Considering the economic potential of secondary metabolites, researches have been focusing several strategies in order to explore and enhance the accumulation of these metabolites in plant matrices in a broad context. One of those strategies is the development of suitable methodologies for the determination of some elicitors, such as salicylic acid (SA). Sin

2. HemoTypeSC point-of-care testing shows high sensitivity with alkaline cellulose acetate hemoglobin electrophoresis for screening hemoglobin SS and SC genotypes
ABSTRACT Introduction: By providing timely actionable results for prompt management, point-of-care testing (POCT) kits have revolutionised medical care for various diseases, ranging from infectious diseases like malaria to genetic disorders, such as sickle cell disease (SCD). They are, however, underutilised in the diagnosis of SCD in developing countries,

3. Hemoglobin S identification in blood donors: A cross section of prevalence
ABSTRACT Introduction: In Brazil, the sickle cell trait (SCT) has an average prevalence of 4% in the general population and 6-10% among Afro-descendants. Although SCT is highly prevalent, a large segment of the population ignores their status. The Therapeutic Guidelines prohibit the transfusion of SCT red blood cells into patients with hemoglobin disorders

4. High prevalence of serological weak D phenotype and preponderance of weak D type 4.0.1. genetic variant in a Nigerian population: implications for transfusion practice in a resource-limited setting
ABSTRACT Introduction: Prevalence of RhD negative phenotype in Nigeria is low; this leads to scarcity of RhD negative red cells for transfusion. Serological and molecular genotyping of RhD negative individuals for weak D types could reduce this scarcity. The aim of this study was to determine the serological prevalence and molecular types of weak D phenotyp

5. Prevalence of hemoglobin abnormalities in an apparently healthy population in Benin
ABSTRACT Background: Sickle cell disease is the most common monogenic disorder in humans and is a major public health concern in sub-Saharan Africa. In Benin, the prevalence of sickle cell disease is estimated to be 4.8%. Our study aimed to describe the prevalence of hemoglobin abnormalities in an apparently healthy Benin population. Methods: One thousand

6. Polymorphism of Serotonin Transporter SLC6A4 (5-HTTLPR) Gene in Cheilitis Angularis Patients
Abstract Objective: To determine the relationship between the Serotonin transporter SLC6A4 (5-HTTLPR) gene polymorphism in cheilitis angularis patients. Material and Methods: We conducted a descriptive analysis of 100 DNA samples extracted from the blood serum of 50 patients with cheilitis angularis and 50 patients without cheilitis angularis. Analysis of

7. Antibacterial Effects of Cuminum cyminum Extract Against Enterococcus Faecalis Biofilms From Clinical Isolates
Abstract Objective: To compare the antibacterial efficacy of Cuminum cyminum (cumin) extract and 2% chlorhexidine. Material and Methods: E. faecalis was isolated from non-vital teeth with chronic apical abscess. Samples were then bred in the ChromAgar medium. Subsequently, E. faecalis bacteria’s DNA extraction was performed. DNA was then amplified by con

8. Acinetobacter baumannii infections in Amazon Region driven by extensively drug resistant international clones, 2016-2018
BACKGROUND Acinetobacter baumannii is a leading cause of nosocomial infections. This species is characterised by the presence of pandemic lineages (International Clones) that present a broad antimicrobial resistance profile. OBJECTIVE To perform the molecular epidemiology of carbapenem-resistant A. baumannii from a clinical setting in the Amazon Basin, an

9. THE INFLUENCE OF ACE I/D GENE POLYMORPHISM IN AMATEUR AMERICAN FOOTBALL ATHLETES IN BRAZIL

10. Molecular Diagnostics of Dengue by Reverse Transcription-Loop Mediated Isothermal Amplification (RT-LAMP) in Disposable Polyester-Toner Microdevices
Dengue is one of the most prevalent infectious tropical diseases in the world, with high incidence in over 100 countries. Rapid and reliable diagnosis of dengue is of great importance for public health. To simplify molecular diagnostics, isothermal amplification techniques have recently emerged as an alternative to conventional methods of deoxyribonucleic ac

11. High rate of detection of OXA-23-producing Acinetobacter from two general hospitals in Brazil
Abstract INTRODUCTION In recent decades, the prevalence of carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter isolates has increased, and the production of oxacillinase (OXA)-type carbapenemases is the main mechanism underlying resistance. We evaluated OXA production from 114 Acinetobacter isolates collected between March and December 2013 from different clinical specimen

12. A new, harmless, high-throughput endosperm-based DNA extraction method for wheat
