25. Eficiência e consistência de grupos indicadores para a representação de diferentes aspectos da diversidade de vertebrados / Efficiency and consistency of indicator groups to representation of different aspects of diversity of vertebrates
Here we report the performance and consistency of indicator groups to inform conservationists about possible conservation planning scenarios in the Brazilian Cerrado and the Atlantic Forest. We explore the performance and consistency (group with equal efficiency and greater than chance in both biomes) of indicator groups for 1) determining which species are

26. Comparing the effectiveness of tracking methods for medium to large-sized mammals of Pantanal
Most Neotropical mammals are not easily observed in their habitats, and few studies have been conducted to compare the performance of methods designed to register their tracks. We compared the effectiveness of track registry between sand plots and two tracking methods that use artificial materials to record tracks: the sooted paper, and the plastic board met

27. Liming effects on growth of native woody species from brazilian savannah.
The liming effects on the fifteen woody species from Cerrado region (the Brazilian savannah) were evaluated under glasshouse conditions. The species used belong to different ecologic groups, namely: pioneer, secondary and climax trees. The soil treatment consisted in the absence of liming (-LIM) and liming sufficient to reach soil pH 6.0 (+LIM). In general,

28. Otimização do manejo da pinta preta causada por Guignardia citricarpa Kiely na produção ecológica de tangerinas cv. Montenegrina sob a ótica da pesquisa participativa / Optimization of management techniques of black spot (Guignardia citricarpa Kiely.) in ecological orchards of tangerine trees cv. montenegrinafrom the perspective of participatory research
In the state of Rio Grande do Sul many citric species are grown, the town of Montenegro, in Vale do Caí/RS stands out among the most important producers. For the production of fruits for in natura consumption most of the local farmers adopt technological packages that consist in the use of chemical inputs and in environmetal simplification. However, experim

The banana (Musa spp) is one of the most consumed fruits in the world. It constitutes an important food, because of their chemical composition and content in vitamins and minerals, especially potassium. It is notable for being versatile, by their taste, low price and their easily of being consumed in natura, favoring the poor population. There are several ch

33. Toxic Effects of Benzo(a)pyrene on the Red Macroalga Gracilaria birdiae / Efeitos tóxicos de benzo(a)pireno sobre a macroalga vermelha Gracilaria birdiae
Algae show a great biodiversity and occupy many different ecological niches. Besides being essential for the maintenance that allow life on Earth, algae are on the basis of aquatic food chains and they suffer with continuous residue discharge that comes from different human activities. However, once algae are exposed to pollutants, biomarkers can indicate it

34. LEVANTAMENTO DAS POPULAÇÕES DE CALLICEBUS COIMBRAI KOBAYASHI &LANGGUTH, 1999 EM FRAGMENTOS DE MATA ATLÂNTICA NO SUL DO ESTADO DE SERGIPE, BRASIL. / SURVEY OF THE POPULATIONS OF CALLICEBUS COIMBRAI KOBAYASHI &LANGGUTH, 1999 IN FRAGMENTS OF THE ATLANTIC FOREST IN THE SOUTH OF THE BRAZILIAN STATE OF SERGIPE.
Coimbra-Filhos titi monkey (Callicebus coimbrai Kobayashi &Langguth, 1999) is an endangered, but poorly-known primate that inhabits remnants of the Atlantic Forest in the Brazilian states of Sergipe and Bahia (northern coast). The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of habitat fragmentation on the ecological characteristics and provide information on

35. Light as an indicator of ecological succession in brazilwood (Caesalpinia echinata Lam.)
The ecophysiological behavior of brazilwood (Caesalpinia echinata Lam.) plants was evaluated as affected by light quantity and quality. Nine-month-old plants were cultivated under 0%, 50%, and 80% artificial shading, and natural shading imposed by a closed canopy for a period of 392 days. At the end of that period growth parameters were measured, including r

The sexual system is an essential factor of genetic variability between vegetal species, which knowledge is essential in conservational and improvement plans. The sexual systems of woody species of resting was determined by pollen and ovule presence and viability in flowers produced in loco, by herbarium exsiccates observation and by literature review.
