1. Non-alpine primary thyroid angiosarcoma
SUMMARY Thyroid angiosarcoma is an extremely rare malignancy, which occurs more frequently in the alpine region, likely associated with iodine deficiency and endemic goiter. This is an aggressive neoplasm that usually harbors a poor prognosis. We report the case of a 49-year-old Portuguese female patient presenting with a large nodule in the anterior neck re

2. Azathioprine-induced accelerated cutaneous and pulmonary nodulosis in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis
AbstractWe report the case of a 42-year-old female with a 5-year history of rheumatoid arthritis treated with Rituximab and Azathioprine. Three months after the initiation of Azathioprine, the patient started with dry cough and noted the rapid development of multiple subcutaneous nodules on her right leg. CT scan of the chest demonstrates pulmonary nodulosis

3. Septic pulmonary embolism caused by a Klebsiella pneumoniae liver abscess: clinical characteristics, imaging findings, and clinical courses
OBJECTIVES: Septic pulmonary embolism caused by a Klebsiella (K.) pneumoniae liver abscess is rare but can cause considerable morbidity and mortality. However, clinical information regarding this condition is limited. This study was conducted to elucidate the full disease spectrum to improve its diagnosis and treatment. METHOD: We reviewed the clinical cha

4. CLASSIFICAÇÃO DE NÓDULOS PULMONARES EM MALIGNO E BENIGNO UTILIZANDO OS ÍNDICES DE DIVERSIDADE DE SHANNON E DE SIMPSON / CLASSIFICATION OF PULMONARY NODULES IN MALIGNANT AND BENIGN USING THE CONTENTS OF DIVERSITY SHANNON AND SIMPSON
Diante do exposto, o presente t

5. Primary isolated gingival tuberculosis
Tuberculosis of the oral cavity is a rare event and when present is usually secondary to pulmonary tuberculosis. We present a case of a 33-year-old male patient who presented with symptoms of gingivitis. Local examination revealed multiple ulcers and a few nodules over the gingiva. A nodule biopsy was consistent with the diagnosis of gingival tuberculosis. T

6. Angioinvasive pulmonary aspergillosis after allogeneic bone marrow transplantation: clinical and high-resolution computed tomography findings in 12 cases
The aim of this study was to present the clinical and high-resolution CT scan findings of angioinvasive pulmonary aspergillosis (APA) in 12 patients who underwent allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT). The CT scans were reviewed by three chest radiologists who assessed the pattern and distribution of findings by consent. There were 7 (58%) female and

7. Identification of rounded atelectasis in workers exposed to asbestos by contrast helical computed tomography
Rounded atelectasis (RA) is a benign and unusual form of subpleural lung collapse that has been described mostly in asbestos-exposed workers. This form of atelectasis manifests as a lung nodule and can be confused with bronchogenic carcinoma upon conventional radiologic examination. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the variation in contrast

8. Postoperative lobar torsion and gangrene.
Following left upper lobectomy for a pulmonary nodule, complete 180-degree torsion of the left lower lobe with haemorrhagic infarction occurred. Despite re-exploration within 24 hours of the initial procedure the patient died. Postoperative torsion requires early diagnosis and resection of the gangrenous tissue.

10. Diagnostic video-assisted thoracoscopic procedures.
OBJECTIVE: The authors evaluated the effectiveness and the limitations of video-assisted diagnostic thoracoscopy. SUMMARY BACKGROUND DATA: The initial successes achieved with the use of video-assisted diagnostic thoracoscopic techniques has lead to an enthusiastic propagation of its use by thoracic surgeons as well as by some pulmonologists. However, detaile

11. Chest radiography and high resolution computed tomography in the evaluation of workers exposed to silica dust: relation with functional findings.
OBJECTIVES--To compare the usefulness of high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) with chest radiography (CR) in the diagnosis and assessment of severity of silicosis. METHODS--27 workers exposed to silica underwent CR, HRCT, and pulmonary function tests. Two experienced readers independently evaluated CR by International Labour Office classification, and

12. Pulmonary Infection Caused by Gymnascella hyalinospora in a Patient with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia
We report the first case of invasive pulmonary infection caused by the thermotolerant ascomycetous fungus Gymnascella hyalinospora in a 43-year-old female from the rural midwestern United States. The patient was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia and treated with induction chemotherapy. She was discharged in stable condition with an absolute neutrophi
