14. Skeletal and dental Class II malocclusion, with anterior open bite and accentuated overjet
Open bite is defined as a deficiency in normal vertical contact between antagonist teeth and may manifest in a limited region, or more rarely throughout the entire dental arch. If the lack of contact between teeth is located in the incisor and/or canine region when occlusion is in centric relation, it is called anterior open bite (AOB). Some studies have dem

16. Estudo prospectivo dos efeitos dentoesqueléticos e tegumentares do aparelho Twin-block comparados aos do Bionator e Herbst no tratamento da má oclusão de Classe II com retrognatismo mandibular / Study of dentoskeletal and soft tissue effects of Twin-block appliance compared to Bionator and Herbst effects in the treatment of Class II malocclusion with mandibular retrognathism
This study had as aim to assess the dentoskeletal and soft tissue effects of the Twin-block appliance by means of 42 lateral cephalometric radiographs obtained in T1, before treatment, and T2, at the end of the orthopedic treatment, of 21 Brazilian subjects of both genders, mean age of 10.5 years, minimum: 9.25 years; maximum: 12.5 years with Class II malocc

17. Avaliação da eficácia em curto prazo do uso de placas estabilizadoras oclusais de cobertura total e dispositivos NTI (nociceptive trigeminal inhibitory splint) no tratamento da dor miofascial da musculatura mastigatória / Short-term evaluation of efficacy of the use of stabilization occlusal splint and NTI (nociceptive trigeminal inhibitory splint) in the treatment of the myofascial pain from masticatory muscles
The aim of this research was to test the hypothesis that the treatment with intraoral appliances with different occlusal designs is beneficial in the management of symptoms and signs of masticatory Myofascial Pain (MMP) when compared to a control group. 51 patients were analyzed according to the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (R

18. Cephalometric assessment of vertical control in the treatment of class II malocclusion with a combined maxillary splint
Vertical control is one of the primary objectives sought by orthodontists when treating malocclusions in hyperdivergent individuals. This investigation aimed at assessing vertical control, by cephalometric measurements, during the treatment of Angle Class II Division 1 malocclusion. Thirty cases, selected from the files of the São Leopoldo Mandic Dental Res

19. Flexure resistance evaluation of mini implants prototypes developed for Herbst appliance anchorage Study in Minipig br1 / Avaliação da resistência à flexão de mini-implantes desenvolvidos para ancoragem esquelética do aparelho de Herbst - Estudo em Minipig br1
An undesirable tooth movement resulting from use of the Herbst appliance is the excessive proclination of the anterior mandibular teeth, which is commonly associated with gingival recession, marginal bone loss, and root resorption. Skeletal anchorage of the Herbst appliance could prevent these problems. The present study was designed to evaluate, in Minipigs

21. Posterior crossbite and rapid maxillary expansion in mixed dentition stage : electromyographic, ultrassonographic and cephalometric / Mordida cruzada posterior e expansão rapida da maxila na fase da dentição mista : avaliação eletromiografica, ultrassonografica e cefalometrica
The aim of this thesis, comprised by three manuscripts, was to analyze the masticatory muscles of children with posterior crossbite (PCB) before and after rapid maxillary expansion (RME); as well to analyze if there are vertical and sagittal skeletal differences resulted by the uses of the banded or bonded RME appliance. In articles 1 and 2, 55 children (age

22. ANCHORED PENDULUM APPLIANCE IN MINI-IMPLANTS: A DENTAL AND SKELETAL EVALUATION / PÊNDULO ANCORADO EM MINI-IMPLANTES: AVALIAÇÃO DENTÁRIA E ESQUELÉTICA
O objetivo deste estudo

23. AVALIAÇÃO DA ESTABILIDADE DAS ALTERAÇÕES PROMOVIDAS PELO APARELHO REGULADOR DE FUNÇÃO FRÄNKEL-2 NOS ARCOS DENTÁRIOS / Evaluation of occlusal changes stability obtained by Fränkels function regulator- 2 in dental arches
This study analyzed the stability of occlusal alterations promoted by the Fränkel function regulator type 2 (FR-2), on a mean posttreatment period of 7.16 years. The study was conducted on 54 pairs of dental casts obtained from 18 patients with Class II division 1 malocclusion, with initial mean age of 10.77 years, treated with the RF-2 for 18 months and re

24. Estudo prospectivo das alterações cefalométricas verticais dento-esqueléticas em pacientes com atresia maxilar e mordida aberta anterior produzidas por dois tipos de disjuntores palatinos: bandado e colado / Prospective study of dental skeletal vertical cephalometric alterations in patients with maxillary constriction and open bite produced by two kinds of palatal appliances: banded and bonded
The fast expansion of the maxilla is a treatment quite used in Orthodontics, for the correction of transversal discrepancies and it provides a better adaptation of the tongue due to the bone increase of the palatal arch, as well as a better nasal breathing. However, the vertical dental skeletal alterations produced by this therapeutic method are questioned.
