1. Biology, distribution and geographic variation of loliginid squids (Mollusca: Cephalopoda) off southwestern Atlantic
ABSTRACT The biology and ecology of southwestern Atlantic loliginid squids have been intensively researched in the last few decades, mostly off the Brazilian southern coast. However, information gathered by scientific research cruisers, either past or recent, is limited. Three species of loliginid squids - the warm-tempered Doryteuthis sanpaulensis (Brakonie

2. Nesting biology of three Megachile (Hymenoptera: Megachilidae) species from Eastern Amazonia, Brazil
Abstract Megachile Latreille is a conspicuous genus of solitary bees distributed worldwide. However, the biology of tropical species is still little known. We present data on biology of Megachile brasiliensis Data Torre, Megachile sejuncta Cockerell and Megachile stilbonotaspis Moure found in two remnants of eastern Amazonian forest in northeastern Brazil. 3. Genetics and sport performance: current challenges and directions to the future
In recent years there has been a great progress in molecular biology techniques, which has facilitated the researches on influence of genetics on human performance. There are specific regions of DNA that can vary between individuals. Such variations (i.e., polymorphisms) may, in part, explain why some individuals have differentiated responses to certain stim

4. Gender-related diet composition and morphometry of the Restinga Antwren, Formicivora littoralis (Aves: Thamnophilidae)
Formicivora littoralis (Gonzaga and Pacheco, 1990), the Restinga Antwren, considered the only endemic bird species of the Restinga ecosystem (sandy plain coastal vegetation), is threatened with extinction. The scientific literature provides little information on the biology of this bird, which was discovered in 1990. We evaluate gender-related differences in

5. Bioecologia e competição de duas espécies de parasitoides neotropicais (Hymenoptera: Braconidae e Eulophidae) de Liriomyza sativae Blanchard, 1938 (Diptera: Agromyzidae) / Bioecology and competition of two neotropical parasitoid species (Hymenoptera: Braconidae and Eulophidae) of Liriomyza sativae Blanchard, 1938 (Diptera: Agromyzidae)
We studied the biology of two species of parasitoids associated with Liriomyza sativae Blanchard, 1938 in the state of Rio Grande do Norte (RN), Brazil: the koinobiont larval-pupal parasitoid Opius (Gastrosema) scabriventris (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) and the larval idiobiont parasitoid Chrysocharis vonones (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae). The following parameters

6. Interação trófica entre Podisus nigrispinus e Supputius cincticeps (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) / Trophic interaction between Podisus nigrispinus and Supputius cincticeps (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae)
Prey may be more or less consumed by control biologic agents and presents three kinds of interspecific interactions, (1) synergism, increase of mortality of prey comparing to each natural enemy independently, when the foraging of one species facilitates the capture of pest by another natural enemies. (2) Total mortality of the pest to natural enemies equals

7. Bioecologia de Spodoptera frugiperda e de seus parasitóides de ovos Telenomus remus, Trichogramma atopovirilia e T. pretiosum / Bioecology of Spodoptera frugiperda and of its egg parasitoids Telenomus remus, Trichogramma atopovirilia and T. pretiosum

8. Interações entre o predador Podisus nigrispinus (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) e o parasitóide Palmistichus elaeisis (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) / Interactions among the predator Podisus nigrispinus (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) and the parasitoid Palmistichus elaeisis (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae)
The use of more than one natural enemy for pests control can increase the efficiency of the biological control, mainly, when those organisms act on different apprenticeships of the pests. The diversification of the beneficial fauna can reduce the population of herbivores and the disturbance of the ecosystems, increasing the local stability. The objective was

9. Limb amputation by male Neotropical longhorn beetles during competition for females
The biology and mating behaviour of the spectacularly large and brightly coloured Neotropical longhorn beetle Schwarzerion holochlorum Bates 1872 (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) is largely unknown. For the first time I report and photographically document violent male-male competitions for females involving frequent amputations of competitors' legs and antennae.

11. Cooperation or competition? Assessment of a strategy to play Teaching Biology for Secondary Education and Higher Education / Cooperação ou competição? Avaliação de uma estratégia lúdica de ensino de Biologia para o Ensino Médio e o Ensino Superior
Games and other playful activities may help to create favorable situations for the acquisition of knowledge. However, most of the games have the competitive component . An alternative for competition is the use of cooperative games, which favor the game with each other rather than against each other. In the present work, we comparatively evaluated a problem-

12. Germinação, competitividade com a cultura da soja e resposta biológica a aplicações de glyphosate para plantas de trapoeraba (Commelina benghalensis L.) / Germination, competitiveness with the soybean crop and biologic response to glyphosate applications of Bengal dayflower plants (Commelina benghalensis L.)
In areas where the herbicide glyphosate is used frequently, populations of the weed Bengal dayflower (Commelina benghalensis) have been selected, due to the species tolerance to the action of that herbicide. This way, the use of alternative management is necessary, which are dependent upon deep knowledge on species biology; as well as, the efficient chemical
