1. Abordagem farmacocinética e farmacodinâmica no monitoramento terapêutico de antimicrobianos em pacientes queimados da unidade de terapia intensiva / Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic approach for antimicrobial therapeutic monitoring in burn patients from the intensive care unit

2. Parameter estimation of compartmental models for positron emission tomography.

3. Bayesian and maximum likelihood estimation of SIR stochastic models / Estimação bayesiana e por maxima verossimilhança de modelos SIR estocasticos
Compartmental models have been widely used in order to model epidemics. Several methods have been proposed in the literature to estimate the models, specially, the least squares method, maximum likelihood estimation and Bayes estimators based on Monte Carlo simulation. In the most of real cases, the data are only partially observable. The work considers the

4. Estudo computacional sobre a influência de sinapses elétricas entre bastonetes na faixa dinâmica escotópica da retina de vertebrados / A computational study on the influence of rod coupling by electrical synapses on the scotopic dynamic range of the vertebrate retina.

5. "Computational simulations biologically plausible of neurons of the primary somatosensory cortex" / "Simulações computacionais biologicamente plausíveis de neurônios do córtex somestésico primário"
Since its appearance, the computer has been used to model phenomena in all areas of knowledge. In neuroscience, computer modeling is used to describe, reproduce and predict behaviors of different components of the nervous system. As well as in other areas of sciences, this procedure has been shown to be efficient in the study and improvement of theories on b

6. Influenza virus population dynamics in the respiratory tract of experimentally infected mice.
Virus population dynamics in the lungs, trachea, and nasopharynx of Swiss-ICR mice were studied after respiratory challenge with mouse-adapted preparations of strain A2/Aichi/2/68 influenza virus. Markedly higher doses of virus were required to produce infection with nasopharyngeal challenge than with bronchoalveolar challenge. In all of the infections, the

7. Neural image processing by dendritic networks
Convolution is one of the most common operations in image processing. Based on experimental findings on motion-sensitive visual interneurons of the fly, we show by realistic compartmental modeling that a dendritic network can implement this operation. In a first step, dendritic electrical coupling between two cells spatially blurs the original motion input.

8. Kinetic compartmental analysis of carnitine metabolism in the human carnitine deficiency syndromes. Evidence for alterations in tissue carnitine transport.
The human primary carnitine deficiency syndromes are potentially fatal disorders affecting children and adults. The molecular etiologies of these syndromes have not been determined. In this investigation, we considered the hypothesis that these syndromes result from defective transport of carnitine into tissues, particularly skeletal muscle. The problem was

9. Modeling the attenuation and failure of action potentials in the dendrites of hippocampal neurons.
We modeled two different mechanisms, a shunting conductance and a slow sodium inactivation, to test whether they could modulate the active propagation of a train of action potentials in a dendritic tree. Computer simulations, using a compartmental model of a pyramidal neuron, suggest that each of these two mechanisms could account for the activity-dependent

10. Fate of receptor and ligand during endocytosis of asialoglycoproteins by isolated hepatocytes.
The endocytosis leading to degradation of 125I-labeled asialo-orosomucoid specifically bound to the surface of freshly isolated hepatocytes was monitored as a function of time at 37 degrees C. Experimental values were determined for the rates of internalization, dissociation of the receptor-ligand complex, and degradation of the labeled ligand. Compartmental

11. The Sources of Carbon and Nitrogen Supplying Leaf Growth. Assessment of the Role of Stores with Compartmental Models1
Patterns of synthesis and breakdown of carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) stores are relatively well known. But the role of mobilized stores as substrates for growth remains less clear. In this article, a novel approach to estimate C and N import into leaf growth zones was coupled with steady-state labeling of photosynthesis (13CO2/12CO2) and N uptake (15NO3−/14N

12. Effects of thyroid disease on glucose oxidative metabolism in man. A compartmental model analysis
Glucose oxidation to CO2 in man at the fasted, steady state has been investigated in normal, hypothyroid, patients by monitoring the specific activity of plasma glucose and expired CO2 after intravenous injection of glucose-1-14C, glucose-6-14C, and sodium bicarbonate-24C in tracer amounts. Making certain stoichiometric assumptions about the oxidation of the
