14. Differences in physical activity levels of school domains between high- and low-active adolescents
Abstract Aim: To compare high active (HA) and low active (LA) adolescent’s physical activity (PA) levels in three different domains: commuting to school, physical education (PE) class and recess time at school. Method: This is a cross-sectional study, with a quantitative approach and random sample of 176 (105 girls) adolescents aged 14 - 18 years old f

17. Sociodemographic differences in walking for leisure and for commuting in Brazilian workers
Abstract Walking is a great health promotion strategy due to its beneficial effects. Objetive: To identify the prevalence of walking for leisure and for commuting to work and its association with sociodemographic factors among 47,477 Brazilian workers. Walking and sociodemographic factors were obtained from a self-reported questionnaire. Poisson regression

19. Three essays on local demand for public services
Local provision of public services has the positive effect of increasing the efficiency because each locality has its idiosyncrasies that determine a particular demand for public services. This dissertation addresses different aspects of the local demand for public goods and services and their relationship with political incentives. The text is divided in

20. Genetic and environmental influences on blood pressure and physical activity: a study of nuclear families from Muzambinho, Brazil
Blood pressure (BP) and physical activity (PA) levels are inversely associated. Since genetic factors account for the observed variation in each of these traits, it is possible that part of their association may be related to common genetic and/or environmental influences. Thus, this study was designed to estimate the genetic and environmental correlations o

21. Vulnerabilities and commuting in the Baixada Santista Metropolitan Area / Vulnerabilidades e mobilidade pendular na Região Metropolitana da Baixada Santista
The purpose of this study is to relate commuting to social demographic and social environmental vulnerabilities. Many studies believe that several kinds of mobility can be considered as important elements to the understanding of the concept of the vulnerability. Initially we present the characteristics of the commuting and the commuters in the Baixada Santis

22. Processos socioespaciais, reestruturação urbana e deslocamentos pendulares na Região Metropolitana de Campinas / Sociospatial processes, urban restructuring and daily commuting in the Campinas Metropolitan Region
Recent changes in Brazil s urban agglomerations have promoted a more dispersed and fragmented - but at the same time, more integrated - urban pattern. Along with these changes, some specific types of population spatial mobility are stressed, such as commuting. This study aims to explore a new theoretical framework for the analysis of commuting, with attentio

23. A local non-Abelian gauge invariant action stemming from the nonlocal operator FmuN(D²)-1FmuN
We report on the nonlocal gauge invariant operator of dimension two, FµN (D²)-1 FµN. We are able to localize this operator by introducing a suitable set of (anti)commuting antisymmetric tensor fields. Starting from this, we succeed in constructing a local gauge invariant action containing a mass parameter, and we prove the renormalizability to all orders

24. Interações entre o morcego Sturnira lilium (Chiroptera: Phyllostomidae) e plantas da família Solanaceae / Interactions between the bat Sturnira lilium (Chiroptera: Phyllostomidae) and plants of the family Solanaceae
Bats have a high ecological importance in the Neotropics for they are highly diverse, very abundant and interact with many plant and animal species. Phyllostomid bats of the subfamily Stenodermatinae are specialized frugivores and important seed dispersers, and Sturnira lilium prefers fruits of the Solanaceae, a family of high ecological and economical value
