25. Toxicity evaluation of Microcystis aeruginosa cultures and natural cyanobacteria blooms from reservoirs of Tietê river, SP / Avaliação da toxicidade de Microcystis aeruginosa e de florações naturais de cianobactérias de reservatórios do rio Tietê, SP
The effects of cyanobacteria upon aquatic organisms were evaluated, aiming to characterize and quantify the toxins of both, a monospecific cyanobacterial culture and material from natural blooms occurring in the reservoirs of Tietê river, SP. The already known toxic strain NPLJ-4 of Microcystis aeruginosa was cultured in ASM-1 medium at 25 Celsius degrees a

Gases generation, as contributor to the greenhouse, inside reservoirs it is one of the possible impacts caused for these systems to environment. Inside reservoirs, the zooplankton community had constituted one source of carbon so that this community would be also under influence of other physical, chemical and biological factors associated with morphometric

27. THE INFLUENCE OF ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS ON THE SPATIAL AND TEMPORAL DISTRIBUTION OF MARINE CLADOCERANS (CRUSTACEA, BRANCHIOPODA) IN AN ESTUARY OF UBATUBA, SP / INFLUÃNCIA DE FATORES AMBIENTAIS SOBRE A DISTRIBUIÃÃO TEMPORAL E ESPACIAL DE CLADÃCEROS MARINHOS (CRUSTACEA, BRANCHIOPODA) EM UM ESTUÃRIO DE UBATUBA, SP
The aim of the present study is to analyse the occurrence and the horizontal-temporal distribution of marine cladocerans in a shallow estuarine region associated to a mangrove forest, and to verify the possible influence of environmental factors on the temporal variation of the species. In the period from July 2004 to June 2005, zooplankton samples were take

28. Estudos ecotoxicológicos da água e do sedimento do rio Corumbataí, SP. / Ecotoxicologic studies of water and sediment in the Corumbataí River, SP, Brazil.
The River Corumbataí possesses regional significance therefore its water has potential to supply the cities of Analândia, Corumbataí, Rio Claro and Piracicaba, in state of São Paulo, Brazil. The consumption for ends of domestic supplying, recreation, irrigation and protection of aquatic life demands that the standards of quality of its water are attended

29. Proteocephalidean larvae (Cestoda) in naturally infected cyclopid copepods of the upper Paraná River floodplain, Brazil
The occurrence, prevalence and infection intensity of proteocephalidean larvae in naturally infected intermediate hosts of the Upper Paraná River floodplain are reported. A total of 5,206 zooplanktonic and benthic organisms were analyzed, namely cyclopid (2,621) and calanoid (1,479) copepods, cladocerans (704), rotifers (307), chironomid larvae (41) and ost

30. Enriquecimento de zooplancton com Ãleo de peixe na larvicultura do Pacu Piaractus mesopotamicus e Curimbà Prochilodus lineatus / Enrichment of zooplÃncton with fish oil in larvicultura of pacu, Piaractus mesopotamicus and curimbatÃ, Prochiloduslineatus
The objective of this study was to evaluate the technical viability of the zooplÃncton enriched with acids graxos used in the feeding of pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus) and curimbatà (Prochilodus lineatus) larvaes. In the Station of Fish farming of the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA), was made the isolation of stumps, the cladocerans and copepods cultur

31. Diel changes in embryonic maturation in two species of marine cladocerans in Guanabara Bay, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Two species of marine cladocerans, Penilia avirostris Dana, 1852 and Evadne tergestina Claus, 1877 were collected in thirteen samples at a fixed station in Guanabara Bay, Rio de Janeiro (30-meter depth) by means of vertical tows with a 200 µm mesh size net at different times from September 12th to 15th, 1995. The parthenogenetic females of Evadne tergestina

32. Aspectos da biologia de Buenoa platycnemis (Fieber) (Insecta, Heteroptera, Notonectidae) da Restinga de Maricá, Rio de Janeiro
A monthly quantitative study on B. platycnemis (Fieber, 1851) was carried out in a sand dune marsh, on the littoral of Rio Janeiro State. The aims of this study were to correlate the life cycle of the species with the seasonal regime of the water body, defining steps of the annual cycle, age strueture, and to indicate oviposition sites and trophic relations.

33. Distribution and significance of heterotrophic marine bacteria with antibacterial activity.
Bacteria with antibacterial activity were isolated from seawater, sediments, phytoplankton, and zooplankton of Suruga, Sagami, and Tokyo Bays and from soft corals and sponges collected from the Taiwan coast. Of the 726 strains isolated, 37 showed antibacterial activity against either Vibrio parahaemolyticus (ATCC 17802) or Staphylococcus aureus (P209). Sedim

34. Rapid contemporary evolution and clonal food web dynamics
Character evolution that affects ecological community interactions often occurs contemporaneously with temporal changes in population size, potentially altering the very nature of those dynamics. Such eco-evolutionary processes may be most readily explored in systems with short generations and simple genetics. Asexual and cyclically parthenogenetic organisms
