3. Intervening in the Acute Phase of Postradiation Carotid Blowout Syndrome
Abstract Introduction Acute carotid blowout syndrome (aCBS) is a severe complication of head and neck cancer (HNC). It can be defined as a rupture of the extracranial carotid arteries, or one of their branches, that causes life-threatening hemorrhage, and which nowadays can be treated with urgent endovascular intervention. Objective We retrospectively ev

4. Embolization by Bullet Dislodged from the Heart
Abstract Embolization by a dislodged projectile is a rare complication that may occur in cases of gunshot cardiac injuries. We report a case of a firearm projectile cardiac injury that evolved, with dislocation of the projectile during cardiac surgery, into embolization of the right external carotid artery.

7. Efeitos da CATUAMA sobre a função ventricular, a mecânica do músculo cardíaco e os parâmetros hemodinâmicos de ratos / Effects of herbal medicine CATUAMA on cardiac function and hemodynamic parameters in rats

We evaluated the late effects of multideficient diet in early period of lactation and the possible effects and/or some alterations due to aging and moderate aerobic training (MAT) in luminal diameter and intima-media area of left common carotid arteries, horizontal aorta and thoracic horizontal aorta walls. Twenty-four male rats, Wistar, were separated accor

Analyze, in patients with primary hyperhidrosis (PH) who was undergone to videothoracoscopic sympathicotomy, the degree of vascular denervation after surgical transection of the thoracic sympathetic chain by measuring ultrasonografic parameters in carotid and vertebral arteries. Methods: Twenty-four patients with PH underwent forty-eight endoscopic thoracic

10. Artificial embolization of carotid-cavernous fistula with post-operative patency of internal carotid artery
This report deals with a patient of 86 who developed a carotid-cavernous fistula. Artificial embolization alone was considered the safest treatment for this patient and proved to be adequate. Post-operative preservation of the patency of the internal carotid artery was demonstrated by angiography. We believe this method is particularly appropriate for caroti

12. Comparative anatomical studies on the thyroid and thymic arteries. III. Guinea pig (Cavia cobaya).
The thyroid and thymic arteries were investigated in 30 male and 30 female Hartley guinea pigs. The superior thyroid artery was the most common (73% of males, 55% of females). It arose from the external carotid artery and gave rise to the superior and inferior laryngeal arteries in addition to glandular rami. In the remaining instances, the independence of t
