2. ADSORPTION OF ATRAZINE IN RICE HUSK BIOCHARS: A PHENOMENOLOGICAL MODEL APPLIED TO EQUILIBRIUM AND KINETIC STUDIES
ABSTRACT Atrazine is an herbicide used to remove weeds in agricultural crops; however, because it is considered toxic, options for removing it from the environment are needed. Adsorption on biochar is an efficient technique for removing organic contaminants. In this study, the atrazine adsorption capacities of two biochars (BCA400 and BCA700) produced from r

4. Effect of 12 weeks of aquatic strength training on individuals with multiple sclerosis
ABSTRACT Background: Physical exercise programs are recommended for patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). However, studies involving aquatic strength training to improve functional capacity in MS are limited. Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of an aquatic strength-training program in improving physical function, strength, and fatigue levels i

5. Physicochemical, sensory properties and in-vitro bioaccessibility of phenolics and antioxidant capacity of traditional noodles enriched with carob (Ceratonia siliqua L.) flour
Abstract In this study, the use of carob flour (CF) was investigated to improve the nutritional, antioxidative, and sensory properties of the noodles produced by the traditional method. In traditional noodle production, carob flour was used as a substitute to wheat flour at six different ratios (0% -control: Cmilk, Cwater, 10-40%, CF; w/w). In the noodle sam

6. Adsorption of Calcium(II), Cadmium(II) and Copper(II) Ions from Water by Prepared Silicon-Aluminum-Zirconium Oxide Using Sol-Gel Process
Ternary oxide silica-alumina-zirconia (SiO2/Al2O3/ZrO2) obtained by the sol-gel process was applied as novel adsorbent of ions in aqueous solution. Batch isotherms were performed using standard CuII, CdII and CaII solutions at variable pH and different concentrations. Adsorption capacity was best at weakly acidic pH. The maximum adsorption capacities were 2.

7. HYDROGEL AND WATER REGIMES IN THE CHLOROPHYLL- A FLUORESCENCE AND GROWTH OF Campomanesia xanthocarpa SEEDLINGS
ABSTRACT Water availability is one of the most important factors for the growth of tree seedlings in forestry-related regions. We hypothesized that under different water regimes, a water-retaining polymer (hydrogel) can positively contribute to chlorophyll- a fluorescence and growth in Campomanesia xanthocarpa (Mart.) O. Berg. Four water retention capacities

8. ÜBER DIE TECHNISCHE SELBSTBESTIMMUNG DES MENSCHEN Ein begrifflicher und phänomenologischer Beitrag zur Erklärung der Fragen nach Eugenik, Transhumanismus, und dgl.
ABSTRACT Especially after the disasters of WWII, the relationship between human nature and technology has mainly been discussed in “Promethean” terms. That is to say, it has been discussed as it concerns the capacity, and perhaps the necessity, of humans to think and act technically, i.e., by means of technical devices, as well as to technically transfor

9. PEACH PIT CHEMICALLY TREATED BIOMASS AS A BIOSORBENT FOR METFORMIN HYDROCHLORIDE REMOVAL: MODELING AND SORPTION MECHANISMS
ABSTRACT In this work, the potential of peach pit biosorption in the removal of the drug metformin hydrochloride from water is evaluated. Experiments are carried out in a closed batch system to evaluate the effect of the solution pH (2–10), temperature (25, 35 and 45 °C), stirring (100, 150 and 200 rpm) and chemical treatments. During the study, biosorben

10. Response of mangrove plant species to a saline gradient: Implications for ecological restoration
ABSTRACT Mangroves are salt tolerant plants that occur in tropical and sub-tropical sheltered coasts. Saltwater intrusions into terrestrial landscapes often occur due to either anthropogenic reasons or natural calamities such as tsunamis. We investigated the potential of using mangrove species for rehabilitation of high saline environments by revealing the c

11. A new polysaccharide isolated from Dendrobium offcinale, stimulates aquaporin-3 expression in human keratinocytes
Abstract Polysaccharides are the major components of the water extract from Dendrobium officinale, which have been thoroughly studied and found to have favorable moisturizing properties on mammalian skin. However, the structures of polysaccharides on skin moisturizing properties remains unknown. The aim of this study was to extract and characterize D. offici
