1. Bluetongue disease in sheep: a review

2. Full genome sequencing of the bluetongue virus-1 isolate MKD20/08/Ind from goat in India
ABSTRACT This communication reports full genome sequencing of the bluetongue virus-1 (BTV-1) isolate MKD20/08/Ind from goat in northern India. The total BTV-1 genome size was found to be 19,190 bp. A comparison study between the Indian isolate and other global isolates revealed that it belongs to the 'Eastern' BTV topotype. The full genome sequence of BTV-1

3. Evaluation of different adjuvants formulations for bluetongue vaccine
This study investigated the adjuvant potential of W/O/W multiple emulsions and microemulsions, comparing them with traditional aluminum hydroxide and oil-in-water emulsion adjuvants against bluetongue vaccine (BTV). Local inflammatory reactions were assessed in rabbits by measuring the temperature of the animals and the skin thickness at the site of applicat

The prevalence of antibodies against bluetongue virus was investigated in 41 dairy goats and 40 sheep herds in the semi-arid region of Pernambuco state and the conditions for insect Culicoides maintenance, considering climate dynamics and vector competence, were evaluated. The percents of seropositive herds in agar gel immunodiffusion test for bluetongue vir

It was studied bluetongue virus antibodies prevalence for sheep and cattle in Southwest and Southeast regions of Rio Grande do Sul State. A total of 2613 serum samples (1272 bovine and 1341 ovine) were tested by agar gel immunodiffusion. Eight bovine and two ovine samples were positive meaning a prevalence of 0.63% and 0.15%, respectively. These results show

8. Diversity of biting midges of the genus Culicoides Latreille (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) in the area of the Yacyretá Dam Lake between Argentina and Paraguay
The Culicoides communities have been analyzed between 1993/1998 in the area influenced by the Yacyretá Dam Lake (Paraná River, Argentina-Paraguay). Adults of Culicoides were collected monthly by using CDC light traps exposed for 24 h in 9 sampling sites located at both margins of the river; 21 species were recorded. Highest values of species richness were

In June of 1997 the prevalence of antibodies to bluetongue virus was between 3.94 and 4.82% in 137 bovine serum samples from 12 herds in Paraiba State, Brazil. This is the first report of antibodies to bluetongue virus in Paraiba State herds.

In the present study a strain of Bluetongue virus, serotype 4 (BTV-S4), when adapted to BHK 21, clone 13 and to VERO cell lines has shown a distinctive cytophatic effect between 72 h and 96 h after inoculation, with titres ranging from 10 POT. 3.6 to 10 POT. 3.6 DICT 50%/ml. After a high speed centrifugation of the packed infected cells the viral particles w

11. Isolation and identification of a variant of bluetongue virus serotype 11 from a ram in a bluetongue outbreak in western Texas.
A field strain of bluetongue virus was isolated from a blood sample of a ram during an outbreak of bluetongue in November 1985 in western Texas. In this bluetongue outbreak at least 25 of the 2,000 sheep were infected. Isolation was made by intravenous inoculation of 11-day-old embryonated chicken eggs. The serotype was identified as serotype 11 by serum neu

12. Expression of largest RNA segment and synthesis of VP1 protein of bluetongue virus in insect cells by recombinant baculovirus: association of VP1 protein with RNA polymerase activity.
The bluetongue virus core particles have been shown to contain an RNA-directed RNA polymerase (1). To identify the protein responsible for the virion RNA polymerase activity, the complete 3.9 Kb DNA clone representing the largest RNA segment 1 (L1) of bluetongue virus (BTV-10) was placed under control of the polyhedrin promoter of Autographa californica nucl
