RESUMO

The current work focused its aim on the understanding of the difficulty coped by the medical setor of Recife city, identifying the cause of the system deficit,questioning the financing obtained by the hospitals and showing that there is not the application of any economical theory on the estabilishment of the prices collected by the hospitals. A mapping of the ditribution of the diseases probability showed a gaussian behaviour to the most part of them and the correlation between investigations and diseases showed insignificance indicating the idea that investigations are done, undepending on a undesirable clinical picture, measured by the Excessive Use Index ( Ãndice de UtilizaÃÃo Excessiva ) UTILEX. The model Data Envelopment Data â DEA â was applied in the efficience study of the hospitals of the medical sector for being more appropriate than a standard model. Finally, the efficiency study applied showed the fragility of the public hospitals of Recife city, in the considered variants, and still more: a reduced number of efficient hospitals when constant returns of scales are imposed, being efficient the hospitals considered of intermediate importance
