RESUMO

Na anuran community was studied at Morro do Ferro, municipalyty of Poços de Caldas (21º48?S, 46º35?W), Minas Gerais State. This consisted of a single altitudinal region (1400 m above sea level) on a plateau composed mainly of alkaline rocks of cretaceous age, with high natural radioctivity. The study carried out between september, 1980 and june, 1983, with major emphasis between july, 1981 and june, 1983, comprising two reproductive seasons of the anurans. Rhe field data was obtained during short visits at regular intervals of two weeks and one sojourn during two weeks at the site. At Morro de Ferro there are two types of environments: a small forest growing over permanent springs near the source of a stream and an open area with marshes and flooded scrubs. The principal environments explored by amphibians in the area are permanent and temporary ponds, streams and the marsh in the open area. Twenty seven anuran species were encountered, although eight were occasioal and did not reproduce sucessfully at the Morro do Ferro. These species are distributed among five families, although most belonged to the Hylidae and Leptodactylidae, with 12 species each. The similar number of species in these two families at the study site, also observed in other areas of southeast Brasil, along with a greater number of genera in Leptodactylidae. ...Note: The complete abstract is available with the full electronic digital thesis or dissertations
