RESUMO

Lichens of the northeast region, especially Cladonia verticillaris (Raddi) Fr., is recognized as efficient biomonitores of the quality of air. The Complex Port/Industry of Suape, by not possessing form some of gauging of atmospheric pollution, was evaluated in 7 points, using C. verticillaris as biomonitor during 12 months. To each bimonthly collection, the samples had been evaluated in the physiological point of view (evaluation of pigments and phenols) e, damages to the external structure (estereoscopy and scanning electron microscopy). It was possible to establish the points with better quality of air, or critical areas, observing the predominant direction of the winds and rainfall. In the areas more polluted, next the Pamesa industry the C. verticillaris texts of the main composition, the acid fumarprotocetrÃrico, sufficiently had been reduced, with accumulation of intermediate products of its biosynthesis, what it ratifies the action of the pollutants in the cell. This also can be verified in the quantification of pigments and damages to the external structure. The called points of Viveiro, Bonesa and PC1 had been considered as critical areas, all located next the Pamesa industry (ceramics manufacturer). The other points, had varied of harm, medium and good in terms of quality of air, also deserving attention so that the implantation of politics exists in Suape that guarantee good parameters of atmospheric pureness, where the data could be used for futures actions of ambient management in the area
