RESUMO

The present dissertations theme is the photographic work produced by Osmar Micucci between the years 1955 and 1963 about the city of Jacobina. Here the photographer is seen as a privileged beholder at the time the city went through several changes in its urban outlooks and in the cultural practices of its population, which were understood then as symptoms of modernity. Working as a photographer, Micucci produced a set of urban images, focusing through them his attentive look onto several aspects which reveal, both panoramically and punctually, his following of the changes in the city. The study aimed to analyze that photographic look and its importance inside that context in Jacobina. In this research, photography was treated as a historical document of first greatness, establishing dialogues with other sources, as the press, orality and writings from that time. Photography is analyzed as a both technical and artistical artifact and it is situated in that specific historical reality. Micuccis urban look is seen inside history of photographys internal and external contexts, thus his work is thought in the relation among culture, local, national and worldwide photography. In the other hand, Micuccis photographs are also treated as cultural patrimony of the city, given the historical value they performed in the construction of that social memory.
