RESUMO

The current essay presents the results of a research on the importance of teaching in the life and career of Anita Malfatti. This prominent Brazilian artist was also a teacher for thirty years, having taught Drawing, Painting and Arts History in private classes and institutions in São Paulo such as Mackenzie College and Associação Cívica Feminina (Civil Womens Association). The research is justified since it is believed that Malfattis work as a teacher plays an important role in the history of art teaching in Brazil, having, therefore, the purpose to fulfill a gap in this subject. By bibliography revision and documents analysis, the intention is to study what the teaching methodology used by Malfatti was, her personal concept of arts and teaching arts, her academic foundation as an artist and as a teacher and finally the repercussion of her teaching activity, in order to organize the pedagogical approach developed and set by this artist-teacher along her professional course.
