RESUMO

The objective of this present work is a formation of a history of determination of area, particulary some works about squaring of planes pictures, oriented for preservice Mathematics Teacher Education. From history texts we elaborate questions in since of evince the multiple dimensions of Mathematics and remove of its supost isolation of other socials practices that participate of formation of mathematics culture. Thus, we sought books, articles, dissertations and theses that help for the formation of a ?history pedagogically oriented?. Despite the difficulties we found in the history study with pedagogics orientations, we made clear the social practices and relationships of power that influenced the concept of area in the old Egypt, in Babilonia, and the work of squaring of Hippocrates, Archimedes and Fermat.
