The interdisciplinary treatment: speech therapy and psychology. / Interdisciplinaridade entre fonoaudiologia e psicologia.

RESUMO

This study involves the patients of a private clinic of Speech Therapy and Psychology, from São Paulo State, through analysis of 288 files from treated patients in 1998. The analysis is based on sex, age, position on family group, school level and client profession, and also parents school level and occupation. The research verifies the origin of the referral, type of evaluation, complaints, hypotheses, duration and treatment interruption. It uses the tests of Chi Square and Spearman Correlation Coefficient on the statistic analysis. Results show that in general there isnt any difference between sex but males are greater than females children. The majority school level is primary school. Most parents have college grade and occupations related with commerce/factory. The spontaneous search for the clinic is the most common. The main complaints showed to the Speech Therapy are related to oral and written language and the oral sensory motor system alterations. Complaints such as behavior and relationships are the most common in Psychology. There are significant relations between problems and hypotheses. The period of speech treatment is long and the average of given up is higher in Psychology. It is possible to conclude that the treatment can be considered efficient, but not interdisciplinary and that new strategies of interventions should be elaborated to make it faster the period of treatment.
