RESUMO

Water has been at the center of world attention, giving rise to several discussions about its uses, conservation, pollution and sustainability. Law No. 9433/97 which established the PNRH - National Water Resources Policy and created the SINGREH - National Water Resources Management (BRAZIL, 1997) is now the leading reference for water management in Brazil. Currently, the role of a watershed has received deserved attention because of its importance for economic development and social unity as the sponsor of the environment. Thus, it made a socio-environmental diagnosis River Basin Guruji, discussing whether or not sustainability in agricultural practice of farmers in the area. The main objective of this study is to analyze, from the use of the concept of Sustainable Development, social, environmental and economic impacts of river basin Guruji, identifying whether there is sustainability in agricultural practice of farmers in the area. The theoretical basis has been achieved through studies and literature searches of general and specific characteristics of the study area, discussing environmental issues and the emergence of the concept of Sustainable Development. The related research was conducted through direct observation in situ and in empirical research, because the analysis of a watershed requires different approaches. We work the socio-environmental diagnosis of the river basin Guruji and sustainability of local agriculture from field interviews with a total of twenty (20) farmers in four different settlements. The recognition of the study area was done through trails on foot, by car, motorcycle, which was utilized equipment such as GPS and cameras to record; application interview with the local subjects, etc.
