RESUMO

With the objective to evaluate different seleniumâs sources, It was made an experiment at University of Lavras (Animal Science Department) with 25 cats (adults, males, females, without a definite race, with medium weight of 3,58 Â 0,54 Kg). The evaluated variables were daily consumption of ration and selenium, fecal and urinary excretions of selenium, plasmatic concentration of âGlutathione Peroxidaseâ, retained selenium, retained selenium from absorbed, content from tissue selenium (fur, lymph node, liver and testicle) and tissue histology. The experimental treatments consisted in T1: standard diet without addition of Se (control), T2: standard diet + 30 mcg of organic Se (Selplex), T3: standard diet + 30 mcg of inorganic Se (Sodium Selenite), T4: standard diet + 60 mcg of organic Se (Selplex) and T5: standard diet + 60 mcg of inorganic Se (Sodium Selenite). The experimental delineation used was the casual blocks in factorial project 2x2 with an additional treatment, five treatments with five repetitions, for all evaluated parameters, except tissue biopsy (five treatments, three repetitions, 15 experimental units). For all concentrations of plasmatic selenium, It was followed the same delineation, however, with the utilization of subdivided fraction at the time. There was significant difference in the retention of the studied selenium sources, being the organic source showed the bigger rates of retention from this mineral (P0, 05). There werenât significant differences among the studied treatments to the Glutathione Peroxidaseâs plasmatic levels (P >0, 05). About the tissue selenium, only the fur showed significant answer (P <0, 05). The treatments with the highest levels of selenium showed the biggest retention in the furs, without the sourceâs interference. No one difference was observed at the tissue histology.
