RESUMO

The use of cement-soil is a very common soil stabilization process in Brazil. However, the soil improved by the cement is little explored in technical literature. This study had the aim of presenting the improvements of the mix of small percentages of cement to the two kinds of soil considered in this work: sample 01 â JJP, lateritic soil, located in JoÃo Pessoa and sample 02 â JBN, non-lateritic soil, located in Recife. The experiments were: characterization (sifting, sedimentation, liquidness limit and plasticity; experiment of Proctor Intermediate compact); experiment through the Physic-Chemical method of dosage to the cement-soil; experiment through the MCT methodology (Tropical Miniature Compacted); dynamic triaxial experiment; and the experiment of resistance to simple compression (RCS). All the experiments took place at the Laboratory of COPPE/UFRJ, in October and November of 2003. There is a comparison among the contents of cement in the various experiments, that is, in the Physic-chemical method, triaxial and simple compression, showing that sometimes it is not necessary that it reaches the value of 2.1 MPa of RCS in order to obtain good result from the mix of soil and cement in terms of deformability. Many times, the addition of little amounts is enough to get the adequate result in terms of σ x ε. It also presents the processing of diverse hypothetical structures, with FEPAVE2 Program, showing the super dimensioning of the empirical method of DNER, in some cases, principally with soils improved by cement. The traditional method of CBR considers only one structural coefficient of 1.2 for the layers of cement-soil which reach the resistance to compression of 2.1 MPa, apart from the of cement, not considering the elastic deformity, being very conservative. The use of the mechanics of paving, as a method of dimensioning with the use of the obtained parameters necessary to the identification of the characteristics of the materials, becomes fundamental when there is a great scarcity of resources in our country. A road is a construction of many kilometers of extent, and the reduction of few centimeters in a layer of pavement considerably reduces the cost of the work
