RESUMO

The issues regarding the protection of the environment are in evidence nowadays. There is a very broad legal framework in the sense of creating both preventive and punitive measures. This way, the industrial companies are the main focus of social observation. There are also normative and market incentives in the sense of creating conditions to fulfill the environmental requirements in question; norms of the series ISO 14000 are examples. However, more than satisfying the requirements of any specific norm, the introduction of an environmental management policy based on procedures can lead the companies to be in accordance with the valid environmental requirements. The foundry industry is part of the base industries aim. Because of that, it is the focus of external observation about environmental subject matters. The fact of using sand in its production process makes the environmental responsibility still greater, due to the peculiarities of extraction and manipulation that this product has. The operational control is one of the bases for the environmental management, since from it all the actions and environmental observations values appear for the specific routine administration. This study proposes a systematic model for the introduction of Environmental Management and its Operational Control usable in Sand Manufacturing Systems in foundries. Finally, this investigation analyses a company that was used for case study and makes a current diagnosis of the situation in relation to an eventual environmental management introduction focused on sand manufacturing system.
