RESUMO

Neolignans are natural products of low molecular weight, produced by oxidative coupling of propenilphenol and allylphenol derivatives. Several members of this class of natural products show biological activity, and two of those studied in this thesis, showed activity against the penetration of cercaria of Schistosoma mansoni and against a type af leukemia. Synthesis, transformations and spectroscopie studies of some types of neolignans are discussed, hoping to contribute to a better understanding of this large group af compounds. Neolignans of type (8.O.4 ), being substituted benzylic alcohols, were found in nature, in both erithro and threo forms. In order to facilitate the assignment of a given configuration, interesting from a biosynthetic point of view, a CNMR analysis of members af both series was carried out. The effects of an -OH group on the chemical shift carbon atoms of the cycle B of neolignans (8.8 ), in a half-chair conformation were also analyzed. In order to obtain the required products for this analysis, hydration reactions in cyclogalgravin, prepared from some tetrahydrofuran neolignas by acid treatment, were studied.
