RESUMO

Cancer is considered one of the main causes of death around the world. This disease can be treated using radiotherapy, surgery, and chemotherapy. Since the discovery of the anticancer activity of cisplatin, studies involving the use of metal complexes as drugs have grown substantially. Aiming to improve the spectrum of antitumor activity, to decrease side effects and cellular resistance, the synthesis of platinum complexes is considered of great importance. In this context, the principal objective of the present work is to obtain novel platinum complexes with potential biological activity. The syntheses of the complexes involved the use of long alkyl chain diamine ligands having an hydroxyl substituent. Our research group has previously studied complexes, which lacked an hydroxyl group, that differ from those presented herein. We are interested in investigating the impact of the new ligands on the activity of the complexes, considering that the presence of the hydroxyl group could affect the polarity of the complex and consequently, its interaction with biomolecules and the cellular membrane. The present work describes the preparation of novel platinum(II) and platinum(IV) complexes having as ligands long chain, N-alkyl derivatives of 1,2- ethanediamine and 1,3-propanediamine with an hydroxyl group. The complexes were characterized by IR,1H,13C and 195Pt NMR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis
