RESUMO

This study aims at gong deep into the understanding of the social mechanisms of construction and persistence of the male domination-exploitation, in unison with social class, race and ethnics. It opens the discussion on the nature of the relations of genders in current conditions, trying not to incur in an approach of an abstract man, who ends up meeting the interests of middle-class, proprietor white men. To this aim, it carries out a theoretical-methodological approach which takes into consideration the diversities of particular cleavages, produced as a result of this process, by the selection of the subjects composing this research. It is based upon the life-stories of eight male persons, being six of them heterosexual, differentiated by social conditions (proprietors, medium segments, laborers, and white and black) and two of them homosexual, one white and one black, all of them living in Teresina, the capital of Piauí, Brazil. Utilizing life-story enabled the learning of the happening under process, of practices of situations in etno-sociological perspectives, categories which have been made explicit along the study. The following was the research questioning: if (and which) categories of men, in having their subjectivity socially constituted as a result of external pressures, promoted changes in their lives and to what extent the change which may have occurred had as purpose the search of overcoming relations? Thus, it was possible to notice the contradictions along the life-stories of these men, in view of the various forms of contesting male domination, in feminist movements and in homosexual, bi-sexual and trans-sexual movements. It was possible to notice the hierarchy and fight among the diverse categories of men seeking to settle in this universe and construct, reproduce and move along public and private spaces, as multiple and contradictory subjects. This explains the fact of stressing the effort to have a parcel of the women restricted to the private space, doing house-hold chores and taking care of children and another parcel prostitutes, lovers, independent women etc stay in the public space and do not claim rights from heterosexual men, regarding private space. Homosexuals, solely for being what they are, make objections to his model and see their lives determined by the misogyny arising from this opposition. Among the results obtained there is also the one revealing that the changes observed have the purpose of adapting to the new social conditions put by the new space-time appropriated by women and homosexuals. Also in relation to the latter, one may observe that it is not necessarily an overcoming of the prevalent model of relations of sexes. It is, then, a modernization that, for its importance, does not stress the need of overcoming domination-exploitation.
