RESUMO

The biodiesel produced in this experiment was obtained from radish oil. We used two methods, one with catalyst-free supercritical methanol and the other with 5% zeolite heterogeneous catalyst (based on its total mass). To obtain biodiesel purification we used column adsorption chromatography (AOCS Cd 11c-93) from which was observed that the catalyst-free supercritical methanol process gave good results demonstrated by conversion rates of up to 86.3% (75 minutes, 15MPa, 430ÂC). However, the zeolite addition had negative effects in the biodiesel production above. The purified biodiesel samples had been characterized later by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and by high resolution gas chromatography (HRGC). The results obtained from these techniques had shown that the major percentage of unsaturated carbonic chains of methyl esters had been broken during thesupercritical methanol reactions, producing biodiesel with higher percentage of saturated esters that are more stable
