RESUMO

The aim of this study was to evaluate the tensile bond strength of commercially pure Titanium bonded to the luting composite resins Panavia Fluoro Cement and Re1y X ARC. One hundred twenty Titanium discs were casted and embedded in PVC tubes with cold-cured acrylic resin. The edges of the Titanium discs containing tubes were cut and the Titanium discs were grounded on 320, 400 and 600 silicon carbide papers. Then, a 4mm diameter circular area was sandblasted (50 mm Aluminum oxide) and the specimens were ultrasonic cleaned for 10 minutes. The specimens were divided in four Groups with 30 specimens each. In the Groups 1 and 3 the discs were bonded in pairs at ten minutes and in the Groups 2 and 4 twenty-four hours after the sandblasting. The specimens of the Groups 1 and 2 were bonded with Panavia Fluoro Cement and the Groups 3 and 4 with the Rely X are. After the twenty-four hours storage in 37°C water, the bonded paired discs were submitted to the tensile test in a 0,5 mm/minute crosshead speed Instron Universal Machine. The tensile strength values were submitted to the analysis of variance (p=0,05). The means and standard deviations were: Group 1 - 13,96 (3,6); Group 2 - 14,76 (7,71); Group 3 - 13,90 (6,08); Group 4: 18, 27 (7,34). The higher tensile strength value was reached in the Group 4 and the smaller in the Group 3, but there was not statistically significant difference among the alI Groups. The surface of the fractured specimens was observed in a 60 x stereoscopic loupe to determinate the fracture shape. One specimen of each Group was selected to observation in scanning electronic microscopy. The fracture shape in the all Groups was a mixture of cohesive in the composite resin and adhesive failures. However, the predominant failure in the Groups 1 and 2 was cohesive in the composite resin and in the Groups 3 and 4 the predominant failure was adhesive between the composite resin and Titanium
