RESUMO
The objective of this research is to identify and comprehend the reference system that organizes the senses and meanings formed by students about violence in the school space, based on Social Representation Theories. The actors on this investigation are 3rd and 4th grade public primary school students in Blumenau - Santa Catarina. School was chosen because children are assumed to be able to provide a vast material of knowledge on the phenomenon of violence, specifically when they share the same school environment and similar representations and conceptualizations about the world. Data collected are on field observation, and through questionnaires and interviews. The constructed conceptions about violence in school interaction reveal that, during childhood, representation is an essential mechanism. It is an instrument of socialization and communication that allows the child to interpret the social and physical discoveries in the reality in which they live, through sensations and actions that become then senses and values. The knowledge on violence is constructed and learned in many social interaction spheres (family, neighbors and others). Social environments experienced by children might reflect their ?behaviors? (representations) at school. In a mix of triviality and naturalization, the social representation of children on violence is not the same as of adults, because in some moments they do not realize that certain acts that might be considered violent - especially when frequent violent manifestations are commonplaces and/or something common to their daily lives, or when they are limited by an expression of impulsivity and desire on competing for self- affirmation
