RESUMO
The aim of this study was to evaluate the removal of mancozeb (Mn), mancozeb NT (NT), and copper hydroxide (Hc) residues from potato and tomato leaflets by rain and/or irrigation. Under controlled conditions different intensities of simulated rain (0, 30, 40, 60, and 97 mm / h), duration (5, 10, 20, and 40 min) and time of drying of the sprayed fungicide suspension (1, 2, 4, 6, and 24 h) were assessed. Greenhouse- grown plants were sprayed with Mn and NT at a rate of 2.4 kg of a.i. / ha and 1.0 kg of Hc a.i. / ha; and let to dry before being taken to the rain simulator. Increasing intensities of simulated rain caused exponential drop of Mn and NT; the same trend was observed for removal of Hc. In both hosts, there was a reduction of residues of all fungicides by increasing the rain duration. No significant difference between the removal of NT and Mn in both potato and tomato leaflets was observed. Increasing dryness time reduced the removal of fungicides residue. After fungicide application, 30 mm / h of rainfall can remove residue from the leaf surface. The deposited fungicide suspension must dry for at least 6h on the leaf surface to avoid the complete removal of fungicide residues by rain or irrigation. Under field conditions, removal of fungicide residues from potato foliage by irrigation and rain was assessed in two trials. The difference between the trials was the amount of water applied in the trial 2: 65mm higher than in the trial 1. The same fungicides and dosages used under controlled conditions were used in the field trials. Two samples were taken at weeks 1 and 2. The linear model described all fungicides removal. In both weeks of the first trial, the removal rate of Mn was higher than that of NT. The late blight severity was low, but in trial 1 all fungicide treatments resulted in less amount of disease than the control when considering the area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) and maximum severity (P = 0.0001). There was no difference among treatments regarding disease severity in the middle of the epidemics duration (Y50). In the second trial, there was no difference between treatments when comparisons were made in the middle of epidemics, or based in the maximum severity. However, based on the AUDPC, treatments differ from control.
