RESUMO

The color of textile effluent resulting from dyeing processes has been one of the main environmental problems faced by textile industries in recent times, regarding the contamination of natural waters. These effluents are characterized by varied composition and because they are highly colorful due to the presence of dyes that cannot fix themselves during the dyeing process. In particular, because they are very soluble, they are highly resistent to the processes of conventional treatment. The pollution of receiving bodies with these compounds results in, besides visual pollution, interference in the light absorption by the vegetal and animal organisms compromising the photosynthetic processes of the water biota. Due to these environmental implications, new technologies have been searched for the disintegration or immobilization of these compounds in textile effluents; however, the desired efficiency is not always accomplished. The adsorption processes are shown as an interesting and feasible alternative because they have a high efficiency in the removal of dyes. In this work, human hair was chosen as adsorbent to remove the dyes Direct Red 80 and Reactive Blue 21 in water solution, and trials with the real textile effluent have also been carried out. The results of dye adsorption by human hair were conducted with 100 mg of adsorbent in 20,00 mL of the dye solution, optimum pH around 3,00 and equilibrium time of 11 hours. The maximum adsorption capacity by the dyes Direct Red 80 and Reactive Blue 21 in the hair was determined by the Langmuir Isotherm mathematical model, and the figures 41,22 mg g-1 and 64,93 mg g-1, respectively. The dye removal process through adsorption in hair was applied in textile effluent samples collected at the Itabira do Campo Industrial Company located in the city of Itabirito MG, removing all the effluents dye.
