RESUMO

The thermal reclamation of sand discarded in the process of molds and cores production with chemically bonded sand consists of a technical and economically viable option for the foundry industry, making possible the reuse in the original process. The present research approaches the study of the characteristics of thermally reclaimed core sand and the respective influences in the technological properties by rebondind through the phenolic urethane Cold Box process. The thermal reclamation processes applied consist of plants based on rotary drum and fluidized bed calciner systems. The processing steps are subdivided by the mechanical lump breaker, calcination, classification, cooling for subsequent reuse in the core production. After reclamation it follows the physical and chemical characterization of the materials, rebonding in laboratory and evaluation of the mechanical properties for subsequent discussion and comparison with the characteristics and properties of new sands. It was verified that the reclaimed sands present differentiated sieve and chemical characteristics to each other and in relation to the new sands, which don t affect the technological properties of tensile strength. However they cause influence in the cure mechanism of the bond system, observed by the bench life decrease of the mixtures.
